What to do for my 4-week-old puppy with an eyelid cut, vets closed?

Cleanse the wound with warm water or saline solution. You can either flush the wound (being careful to avoid the eye) or wipe the cut with a moistened gauze pad. Pat dry. Apply a thin film of a triple antibiotic ointment (such as Neosporin) twice daily. Monitor the wound for swelling, redness, or discharge. If you notice these signs, then you will need to have the wound looked at by your veterinarian. Most importantly, make sure your dog's rabies vaccination is up-to-date. If you are unsure or close to the due date, contact your veterinarian. Place an e-collar (cone) on him or her to prevent pawing, rubbing or scratching.

Poor Blacky. If at all possible, Blacky needs to go to an emergency clinic right now. This could be as minor as a skin scrap, or as severe as a ruptured eyeball. If you are unable to get to an emergency clinic, use a warm wash cloth to clean off his face and get to a vet as soon as possible if he's squinting or his eye looks odd in any way. Hello, sorry to hear about Lincoln. Protecting the eye from further trauma by placing an e-collar on would be something you can do without seeing a vet. However, eye injuries can be very dangerous and if youre at all able to have him evaluated, sooner would be better than waiting until tomorrow. Keep your puppy away from playing with your other dog until you can get him evaluation. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Superficial wounds around the face are usually treated with topical antibiotics (creams or ointments) or antibiotics tablets. Larger wounds need to be stitched up, but if the would you found is not fresh, most likely your vet would not want to stitch it up. Please, clean the would twice a day with 4% chlorhexidine solution (you can buy it at pharmacies) for a few days and it will hopefully heal up. However, if it starts to bother Aimee or becomes painful you will have to take her to your nearest vets possibly to get a course of antibiotics.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cotton! When it comes to eye issues I recommend a Vet examine the pet. Cotton's eyes could be swollen from an allergic reaction to an insect/spider bite or from some allergen outside or from an infection. The mainstay of treatment for an allergic reaction are steroids and antihistamines. An infection is treated with antibiotics and steroids. Your Vet will want to be sure the eye balls themselves are ok and don't have a scratch on them (corneal ulcer). I hope this helps and I wish Cotton a speedy recovery!

If you rinsed her eye out and it didn't help then she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. She could have a corneal ulcer/scratch, infection, foreign material in her eye, etc. Your vet can stain her eye to determine if there is an ulcer or scratch and then prescribe medications to help treat. She may need an antibiotic and/or an anti-inflammatory to help treat the problem.
