My spayed French bulldog has vulva sores after dog licking. What now?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Elvis. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian today as his skin appears uncomfortable. He could be experiencing a skin infection secondary to allergies, fleas, or a problem due to ringworm or mites. His veterinarian will examine him and may recommend skin tests. From there, medications can be prescribed to help him feel better. In the meantime, you can bathe him with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe his skin. I hope this information helps!

Poor Marni. If I'm understanding correctly that this isn't the first time this has happened, that sounds like classic skin allergies, which French Bulldogs are prone to. Basically, when dogs have allergies (usually to something in the environment like pollen or grass, but it can also be a food or fleas) they get skin issues such as ear infections and skin infections. The treatment is treating the infections, and then figuring out what they are allergic to and either suppressing the body's allergy response with medications or avoiding the allergen. Now if this is the first time, it's possible she got some water in her ears and her vulva is infected because of the way it's shaped (also very common in French Bulldogs). So I would recommend a vet visit to see what infections she has going on a great treatment, and also to make a long term strategies for getting any allergies diagnosed and under control. This is very likely to be a scrotal dermatitis. It could be cause by a contact allergy or irritation or by a infective agent (bacteria, fungal). I strongly recommend to avoid any licking, chewing or scratching of the area (Gizmo would probably need a buster collar) otherwise the inflammation wan't disappear. You could bath the area with some diluted hibiscrub once a day for 3 days but if the problem persist a check up with the vet and prescription meds might be needed. Winston's prepuce does look quite irritated. If he has been mounting or humping it could be that he has caused some irritation, and if he is able to lick the area it could get worse. I would recommend putting an e-collar on him and you should try to prevent him from rubbing or humping anything. It looks like the tip of his penis is visible in the picture as well - if the penis continues to be visible, particularly if more of it becomes visible (called paraphimosis) you should see a veterinarian right away as exposure to air can cause damage to the delicate tissue pretty quickly. If he doesn't seem more comfortable by tomorrow morning or is having any difficulty urinating I'd recommend seeing your vet as well.

That looks like a very inflamed ulcer or a wound. I do recommend to have that examined by the veterinarian. Kona will likely get a medicated ointment to decrease the inflammation. I hope it clears up quickly and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Licking and biting excessively at the vulva is often a sign of a urinary tract infection, vaginitis, or certain types of allergies. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do at home to treat any of these problems effectively, so I would recommend taking her to the vet tomorrow for an exam if possible - she will probably need prescription antibiotics or other medication to treat the problem.
