My French Bulldog's privates are red & irritated. What should I do?

Hi my French Bulldog seems to be rubbing himself a lot and in discomfort in his privates. He seems a little red. I gave him a benydral & put neosporn on it

Winston's prepuce does look quite irritated. If he has been mounting or humping it could be that he has caused some irritation, and if he is able to lick the area it could get worse. I would recommend putting an e-collar on him and you should try to prevent him from rubbing or humping anything. It looks like the tip of his penis is visible in the picture as well - if the penis continues to be visible, particularly if more of it becomes visible (called paraphimosis) you should see a veterinarian right away as exposure to air can cause damage to the delicate tissue pretty quickly. If he doesn't seem more comfortable by tomorrow morning or is having any difficulty urinating I'd recommend seeing your vet as well.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to allergies. I do worry about how swollen it is. I think you did well by using those medications. However, if he does not improve within the next 18-24 hours or worsens, I think a veterinary evaluation is definitely needed for further assessment and treatment. In the meantime, I recommend using an e-collar to prevent any licking if that is an issue at the moment. Good luck and have a good night!

Constant discharge or crusting on the penis is not normal, and if it now appears irritated it may indicate an underlying infection or allergy. I would have it checked out by your vet to be on the safe side.

This is very likely to be a scrotal dermatitis. It could be cause by a contact allergy or irritation or by a infective agent (bacteria, fungal). I strongly recommend to avoid any licking, chewing or scratching of the area (Gizmo would probably need a buster collar) otherwise the inflammation wan't disappear. You could bath the area with some diluted hibiscrub once a day for 3 days but if the problem persist a check up with the vet and prescription meds might be needed. Sorry to hear that Dexter fell! I'm sorry to say that it is difficult to evaluate what is going on from the picture. I recommend having him seen by his veterinarian to have it evaluated. He may just have inflammation, or he could have something more serious such as neurologic damage. Either way, he looks like he needs some medical treatment so that more issues don't arise. Also, they can get pretty serious damage to their penis if it cannot retract properly.

French bulldog scooting: Red sores on testicles. What should I do?

Those spots on Koby could be several things including fleas, allergies, skin mites, bacterial infection, ringworm (which humans can get) or endocrine disease. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesions once a day (not his whole body, just the lesions). Also protect the area from trauma by having your pup wear an elizabethan collar at all times. If the lesions do not start improving within a week or if they are getting worse, have him examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My French Bulldog has sores on his belly and private parts. What is it?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Elvis. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian today as his skin appears uncomfortable. He could be experiencing a skin infection secondary to allergies, fleas, or a problem due to ringworm or mites. His veterinarian will examine him and may recommend skin tests. From there, medications can be prescribed to help him feel better. In the meantime, you can bathe him with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe his skin. I hope this information helps!
