Dog vomiting & soft poop after Benadryl for bee sting. Normal?

Poor pup! I recommend to have him examined again today. It’s possible the liquid Benadryl is making him throw up. The doctor may recommend to try a tablet instead. The doctor may also want to send him home with some oral steroids and perhaps a medication to stop vomiting. A bland diet for the next 24 hours may also be beneficial. I hope Kai starts feeling better quickly!

Poor guy. Steroids can cause abnormal stools, so this is likely the culprit. Also his body is stressed, so loose stool is commonly seen. You can try giving him a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days, then slowly transition him back to his normal diet once his stools do return to normal. 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) can also be added to his food daily to help solidify his stools. If he still has loose stools after 48 hrs, then a repeat vet visit is likely needed to get him on something stronger. You should continue to give the Benadryl as instructed by your vet. This could be from eating horse poo, and it could be a reaction to the sting. If he keeps throwing up or if the bee sting swelling does not go down you should take him to a veterinarian for some stronger medication to reduce the swelling. Once he stops vomiting you can withhold feed for about 12 hrs, then feed bland food (boiled rice with boiled boneless white chicken meat) for a day and then slowly introduce his regular food again . Should Percy get lethargic, get breathing problems or appear ill any other way, he should be seen by a veterinarian right away.

I am sorry to hear Madison is not feeling well. Insect stings can cause anaphylaxis just like in people. It is a good sign the facial swelling is going down and you can administer an over the counter antihistamine. However, if the vomiting does not stop I would recommend taking her to a vet for medications to stop the vomiting. I would be concerned that she might become dehydrated. Also, you can feed a bland diet to help her rest her stomach.

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Chyna's care. Loose stools is not a typical sign of an allergic reaction though anything is possible when that occurs. Also, it could have been secondary to the Benadryl though not typical or just dietary indiscretion from eating something else. Just continue to keep an eye on her for now. Poor Paisley! The good news in this situation is that the blood is very red mraning it has likely come from further down the GI tract. Blood in faeces can occur for numerous reasons but usually it is to do with diaorrohea and straining. I suspect Paisley has developed inflammation in the large or small intestine. This may be to do with the bee sting, but also could be a reaction to the benadryl. I imagine they may have given her a steroid jag which can cause GI upset in sensitive guts. I would stop the benadryl and starve her for 12 hours then feed plain chicken and rice to give her guts a break. If the diarrohea or blood is not improved within 24 hours it would be best to see the vet again.

Tis could be a minor vaccine reaction. I would feed her some chicken and white rice to help settle her tummy. You can also give her Benadryl twice a day. See link below.
