My dog had hives, took Benadryl. Why is she having loose stools now?

Poor guy. Steroids can cause abnormal stools, so this is likely the culprit. Also his body is stressed, so loose stool is commonly seen. You can try giving him a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days, then slowly transition him back to his normal diet once his stools do return to normal. 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) can also be added to his food daily to help solidify his stools. If he still has loose stools after 48 hrs, then a repeat vet visit is likely needed to get him on something stronger. You should continue to give the Benadryl as instructed by your vet. Poor Paisley! The good news in this situation is that the blood is very red mraning it has likely come from further down the GI tract. Blood in faeces can occur for numerous reasons but usually it is to do with diaorrohea and straining. I suspect Paisley has developed inflammation in the large or small intestine. This may be to do with the bee sting, but also could be a reaction to the benadryl. I imagine they may have given her a steroid jag which can cause GI upset in sensitive guts. I would stop the benadryl and starve her for 12 hours then feed plain chicken and rice to give her guts a break. If the diarrohea or blood is not improved within 24 hours it would be best to see the vet again.

I am so sorry that Chanita is dealing with this. I would highly recommend calling your veterinarian and taking her to see them. This looks like it could potentially be an allergic reaction and that would explain why the benadryl helped and the lesions are no longer there. She may still have some of the allergen affecting her. Your veterinarian can perform blood work to make sure there is nothing else going on with her and then give her medication to help with the allergen. They can also vomit from an allergic reaction so it does not surprise me. Regarding her stool you can always try a bland diet (boiled chicken and white rice). I would stop all the medicine and let her stomach rest. Steriods can cause GI upset andnit can be worse if they don’t have food in their system. Vomiting and diarrhea can be a side effect of the medicine. I would only feed chicken and rice to let her tummy rest for the next 24 hours

Minor rashes like this on Chloe are often due to allergies, which is why it responds to benedryl. You can continue to give the antihistamine which will help. Wiping her down with a wet wash cloth when she comes in from the outside will also help to remove allergens from the outside. I would take Harley into a vet immediately. It is concerning that she has been vomiting and having diarrhea, and that the Benadryl isn't helping her hives. Hives are typically caused by allergic reactions, and they can progress to swelling and difficulties breathing. Oftentimes dogs need stronger medications to stop an allergic reaction, such as steroids. Only a vet can give her the correct medicine for her symptoms. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. I believe it might actually be part of the original allergic reaction but as there is suspicion he had a reaction to the Benadryl i wouldn't recommend giving it again. instead i would recommend to monitor him, give it 48 hours, if it is not resolved bring him back to the vet for a steroid shot.
