Dog puking, not eating after birth control shot. Is she pregnant?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 38 lbs

I have a Labrador bitch which mated with a street during her mating time. We went to a vet who gave a an injection to stop the pregnancy. But after that she is puking daily and has also lost her appetite and i have read it on Google as early pregnancy signs. So i was pretty concerned about she's pregnant or not. What should I do? Please help. She mated on 4th September and was injected with the birth control on 5th September.

No, those are not signs of early pregnancy. Dogs do not get "morning sickness" like people do. Her symptoms are most likely related to the mis-mating injection she received.

I do not know what type of injection is used in India for mis-mating however the one we use here in the US causes these side effects: anorexia, excitation, depression, vomiting or diarrhea. Some dogs may also be at risk for getting a severe uterine infection after the injection. The injection we use here works best and has less side effects if you wait to administer it after their heat cycle is finished. If I was your vet, I would have waited to administer the injection for a couple weeks. That being said, I do not know what medication they used.

I suggest you contact your vet and find out more information and ask them about these symptoms she is having. IT is very difficult for me to say much without knowing what was used.

My dog mated 2 weeks ago. Why is she vomiting and having diarrhea?

No, it isn't normal for a dog to behave like this after mating. It could be that the mating didn't take, and she could now be suffering from an infection of the uterus called a pyometra. A pyo is life threatening, and requires immediate medical attention. I would take Brinleigh into a vet now for an exam. The vet can do a physical exam, routine blood tests, a urinalysis, and x-rays to determine if she does have a pyometra. If she does have one, the recommended treatment is to spay her and treat her with antibiotics. Please take her into a vet now.

Dog acting weird, humping, vomiting after mating. Is she pregnant?

The mounting may simulate be dominance behavior and likely is unrelated to mating or pregnancy. It is too early to determine if she is indeed pregnant or not. You will need to have her physically examined by your veterinarian in about 4 weeks. At that time, your vet can confirm pregnancy via palpation, blood test or abdominal x-ray or ultrasound. The vomiting may be unrelated as well. If it was just once and she is behaving normally now, there is likely no cause for concern. If she continues to vomit, have her seen sooner by your veterinarian.

My dog was bred 9 weeks ago, now her belly is big and she's puking. Pregnant?

Two possibilities exist here, one she is pregnant or two she is sick. If you are not feeling puppies kicking in her belly and she is puking and acting ill, then she could have a serious condition called Pyometra (spontaneously infected uterus). This will cause swelling of the belly almost overnight and cause the pet to have a fever (> 102.5 degree Fahrenheit rectal temperature), vomit, decreased appetite and lethargy. If this is the case please take Maci to your local vet right away for proper care. I do hope that this helps point you in the right direction towards Maci’s care moving forward. My dog is not eating, vomiting, and might be pregnant. What to do?

Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Unfortunately, there are no anti-nausea/vomiting medications safe for pregnant dogs. The greenish liquid is likely bile from vomiting on an empty stomach. Nausea and vomiting can be common in some dogs in the early stage of pregnancy. There are also other more concerning causes of vomiting in dogs, so if it continues or becomes more frequent, I would take her into see her veterinarian as soon as possible. My dog mated, now she's sick, lethargic, and won't eat. Pregnant?

Poor Princess! She could be pregnant but she could also have something else going on like parasites, eating something she shouldn’t, a bacterial infection or even a viral infection. You can try to offer her some plain chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if you can entice her to eat. If she doesn’t perk up soon, I would have your vet take a look at her. I worry she is going to get dehydrated. Your vet will be able do a fecal, blood work and even X-rays if needed. Your vet will be able to assess her hydration and give her fluids if needed. Your vet will be able to get her started on some meds that are safe for puppies in case she is pregnant to help make her feel better. I hope this helps!

Why is my dog sick after puppies, refusing food, and throwing up?

I don’t think she is depressed. I think she is probably sick. I worry about a uterine infection called a pyometra. It is a pus filled uterus. It doesn’t happen often just after pregnancy, but it can. If this is her problem it is life threatening without surgery. I would encourage you to take her to your local humane society or city shelter as often they will provide low cost or even free spay and neuter.
