Dog acting weird, humping, vomiting after mating. Is she pregnant?

No, it isn't normal for a dog to behave like this after mating. It could be that the mating didn't take, and she could now be suffering from an infection of the uterus called a pyometra. A pyo is life threatening, and requires immediate medical attention. I would take Brinleigh into a vet now for an exam. The vet can do a physical exam, routine blood tests, a urinalysis, and x-rays to determine if she does have a pyometra. If she does have one, the recommended treatment is to spay her and treat her with antibiotics. Please take her into a vet now.

No, those are not signs of early pregnancy. Dogs do not get "morning sickness" like people do. Her symptoms are most likely related to the mis-mating injection she received. I do not know what type of injection is used in India for mis-mating however the one we use here in the US causes these side effects: anorexia, excitation, depression, vomiting or diarrhea. Some dogs may also be at risk for getting a severe uterine infection after the injection. The injection we use here works best and has less side effects if you wait to administer it after their heat cycle is finished. If I was your vet, I would have waited to administer the injection for a couple weeks. That being said, I do not know what medication they used. I suggest you contact your vet and find out more information and ask them about these symptoms she is having. IT is very difficult for me to say much without knowing what was used. Hope this helps. It does sound like from your description that Shiloh could be pregnant again. The best way to confirm this is to take her into the vet for an exam. If you have an idea of when she was mated, then the vet can run tests to get a closer approximation of how far along she is in the pregnancy. For example, a blood test looking for the hormone relaxin can be done starting at 22 days gestation. If she is further along in the pregnancy, then x-rays and an ultrasound can be done. Given her age, I would start saving now for the chance she may need a c-section. That's because older dogs can have more difficulties giving birth due to age, and it's best to be prepared for that now both financially and emotionally. I would also recommend getting her spayed after this litter. It's never recommended to breed dogs older than 6-7 years of age, and spaying her would prevent future litters from happening, as well as eliminating the possibility of a pyometra (a life threatening infection of the uterus). I would take Shiloh into the vet tomorrow for an exam :-)

Two possibilities exist here, one she is pregnant or two she is sick. If you are not feeling puppies kicking in her belly and she is puking and acting ill, then she could have a serious condition called Pyometra (spontaneously infected uterus). This will cause swelling of the belly almost overnight and cause the pet to have a fever (> 102.5 degree Fahrenheit rectal temperature), vomit, decreased appetite and lethargy. You should expect to see belly growth when pregnant, but every dog carries differently. The only way to know for sure if Diamond is pregnant is to have her seen by a vet, and I'd take her into one today if she is vomiting and not eating. Her health is really important for her puppies if she is pregnant, so best to get her checked out asap when sick. I hope this helps!

Poor Princess! She could be pregnant but she could also have something else going on like parasites, eating something she shouldn’t, a bacterial infection or even a viral infection. You can try to offer her some plain chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if you can entice her to eat. If she doesn’t perk up soon, I would have your vet take a look at her. I worry she is going to get dehydrated. Your vet will be able do a fecal, blood work and even X-rays if needed. Your vet will be able to assess her hydration and give her fluids if needed. Your vet will be able to get her started on some meds that are safe for puppies in case she is pregnant to help make her feel better. I hope this helps!
