My dog mated 2 weeks ago. Why is she vomiting and having diarrhea?

The mounting may simulate be dominance behavior and likely is unrelated to mating or pregnancy. It is too early to determine if she is indeed pregnant or not. You will need to have her physically examined by your veterinarian in about 4 weeks. At that time, your vet can confirm pregnancy via palpation, blood test or abdominal x-ray or ultrasound. The vomiting may be unrelated as well. If it was just once and she is behaving normally now, there is likely no cause for concern. If she continues to vomit, have her seen sooner by your veterinarian.

I don’t think she is depressed. I think she is probably sick. I worry about a uterine infection called a pyometra. It is a pus filled uterus. It doesn’t happen often just after pregnancy, but it can. If this is her problem it is life threatening without surgery. I would encourage you to take her to your local humane society or city shelter as often they will provide low cost or even free spay and neuter. Vomiting is not normal for a dog that has recently been in heat. It may indicate an infection in her uterus which can be life threatening. Or she may have a primary GI cause for the vomiting. If she continues to vomit or otherwise act sick I recommend a vet visit

Hello. As long as Lola is eating & drinking fairly well, nursing the puppies & seeming to be contented, she should be well. If you have not wormed her in the past few months, I would definitely take a stool sample to your veterinarian now to make sure she will not be passing any parasites to her puppies. Because some parasites are inevitable in puppies, & based on what & if your vet sees anything in the stool, you will need to start administering a wormer to the puppies starting at 2 weeks of age. I'm sorry to hear that Daisy has not been feeling well. The loss of appetite, increased drinking, lethargy, and licking of her vulva following mating (presumably during her heat cycle/ estrus) could be due to a number of causes: a urinary tract infection, pyometra (uterine infection), or pregnancy (although this is less likely to cause some of the signs you've noted). At this point, your best bet is to take Daisy to her vet for an exam, blood work, urinalysis, and possibly abdominal x-rays to try to get to the bottom of this situation so that appropriate treatment can be started. If she has a urinary tract infection, she will need antibiotics, whereas if she has a pyometra, she will need to be spayed immediately because this condition is life-threatening if not addressed urgently. It could be stomach upset but it could be something more serious like a pyometra. A pyometra is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. I'd have her seen by a vet now to be safe. Best of luck.

Poor Princess! She could be pregnant but she could also have something else going on like parasites, eating something she shouldn’t, a bacterial infection or even a viral infection. You can try to offer her some plain chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if you can entice her to eat. If she doesn’t perk up soon, I would have your vet take a look at her. I worry she is going to get dehydrated. Your vet will be able do a fecal, blood work and even X-rays if needed. Your vet will be able to assess her hydration and give her fluids if needed. Your vet will be able to get her started on some meds that are safe for puppies in case she is pregnant to help make her feel better. I hope this helps!
