Dog vomited after worm medicine. Is it normal? Should I re-dose?

My dog has worms and he threw up right after i gave him the medication, is that normal? Im not sure if i should give it to him again or if it had already absorbed?

Hello, sorry to hear about Milo. make sure you are giving him the granules with food. Dogs with worms may have occasional vomiting as well. It would be hard to tell from this point if Milo's medication had enough time to reach the worms. This medication kills worms in the intestines but only small amount get absorbed.

Therefore, it would be safest to administer an extra day of this medication with food, then to give an extra dose tonight. However, you should consult with your primary care veterinarian and see if they too recommend administering an extra day of this medication.

Poor guy. If he vomited within 1 hr of giving the medication, he likely vomited it back up. However, if you are still unsure and didn't see the pill within the vomit, it is best to wait at least 3 days, give a second dose, then wait 2 weeks and give a 3rd dose just to make sure he gets the medication. Dog puked after dewormer. Is it still effective or needs redosing?

If your dog vomited more than an hour after the medication was given it is probably OK and in his system. However, if the dog vomited before an hour had passed then you will need to redose your dog with another round of dewormer. This medication is very safe and redosing should not cause a problem. My dog keeps vomiting after deworming. Is the medicine working?

It is not uncommon for dogs to vomit after medication and generally if it is more then 2 hours after the medication should have worked. As the food was undigested it may not have been absorbed as well as anticipated and it may be worth applying a different type of spot on medication, especially if you are in a heartworm affected area. Contact your local vets office for advice on the local risks and benefits of repeating or not

My dog vomited worms and water after dewormer. Will he be okay?

He could still vomit worms - it can take a few days and usually two doses to take care of most roundworms. There are some types of stomach worms that would require a different dewormer so I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian if Roman continues to vomit. They can test Roman's stool to help determine what type of worms are present, and it might also help to reserve a worm if he vomits another up.

My dog vomited Panacur C for hookworms. Vet closed, what to do?

If it happened that long after eating, it may or may not have been associated with the medication. I would try it again today, and if she vomits again, then stop the medication until you can speak with your veterinarian. Either way, call your veterinarian once they are open as she may need an additional day of medication if she tolerates it.

Why is my puppy passing live worms after deworming medicine?

Yes, it's very common to see the worms after giving the deworm medication. This type of deworm medication works by inhibiting the nerves in the worm. While this usually does kill the worm, they may be somewhat alive still when they are passed in the stool. The fact that the worm came out indicates that it is at-least debilitated. If this was Millie's first deworm tablet, then it's best to give another one (like drontal plus) in two weeks to make sure you get all the worms. I hope that helps.
