My dog vomited worms and water after dewormer. Will he be okay?

Poor guy. If he vomited within 1 hr of giving the medication, he likely vomited it back up. However, if you are still unsure and didn't see the pill within the vomit, it is best to wait at least 3 days, give a second dose, then wait 2 weeks and give a 3rd dose just to make sure he gets the medication. I would recommend letting your veterinarian know that Bernie vomited a roundworm. It is very common for puppies to have roundworms and the dewormer is most likely killing them off. I would recommend depending on what type of dewormer to deworm again in 2 weeks or change the dewormer. Sometimes it takes a second round of deworming puppies. It is not uncommon for dogs to vomit after medication and generally if it is more then 2 hours after the medication should have worked. As the food was undigested it may not have been absorbed as well as anticipated and it may be worth applying a different type of spot on medication, especially if you are in a heartworm affected area. Contact your local vets office for advice on the local risks and benefits of repeating or not

If Roman vomited up roundworms, Vermox should clear the infection. Ideally, you should submit the worms or a stool sample to your veterinarian for confirmation. Deworming doesn't directly stop vomiting. IF the vomiting is indeed caused by the intestinal worms, I would expect vomiting to stop within a week or so of deworming, but it could be longer if the parasite load was causing a lot of irritation. I would still recommend a recheck if still vomiting after 5-7 days.

If he vomited 5 days after the deworming the vomiting is not likely to be related to the deworming. It sounds as Smokey t is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

It is possible that he could have been more stressed at the first visit or had car sickness causing him to throw up the first one. If a different dewormer was used, this could have caused it as well. As long as Max is ok now, that is all that matters. I've had countless dogs vomit with the dewormer. Some just have more of a sensitive stomach than others and it could have been that maybe Max had a more sensitive GI system at the time of the first dewormer but the GI system became more developed and not as sensitive at the time of the second dewormer.
