My dog threw up after roundworm medicine. Should I redose him?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My dog has just been treated for roundworms. They gave him Drontal 136mg. He’s thrown up twice now. Should I give him another dose or will that be okay? His next dose isn’t for another two weeks.

Poor guy. If he vomited within 1 hr of giving the medication, he likely vomited it back up. However, if you are still unsure and didn't see the pill within the vomit, it is best to wait at least 3 days, give a second dose, then wait 2 weeks and give a 3rd dose just to make sure he gets the medication.

Best of luck with your pet moving forward. Take care. : )

I'm wondering how long after he was given it that he threw up. If it was more than two hours, it should be fine. If he vomited within two hours, wait a day or two, then dose him again. Next time, give it to him with food.
