My dog threw up after roundworm medicine. Should I redose him?

Hello, sorry to hear about Milo. make sure you are giving him the granules with food. Dogs with worms may have occasional vomiting as well. It would be hard to tell from this point if Milo's medication had enough time to reach the worms. This medication kills worms in the intestines but only small amount get absorbed. Therefore, it would be safest to administer an extra day of this medication with food, then to give an extra dose tonight. However, you should consult with your primary care veterinarian and see if they too recommend administering an extra day of this medication. Hope this helps and best of luck.

If your dog vomited more than an hour after the medication was given it is probably OK and in his system. However, if the dog vomited before an hour had passed then you will need to redose your dog with another round of dewormer. This medication is very safe and redosing should not cause a problem. It is not uncommon for dogs to vomit after medication and generally if it is more then 2 hours after the medication should have worked. As the food was undigested it may not have been absorbed as well as anticipated and it may be worth applying a different type of spot on medication, especially if you are in a heartworm affected area. Contact your local vets office for advice on the local risks and benefits of repeating or not

He could still vomit worms - it can take a few days and usually two doses to take care of most roundworms. There are some types of stomach worms that would require a different dewormer so I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian if Roman continues to vomit. They can test Roman's stool to help determine what type of worms are present, and it might also help to reserve a worm if he vomits another up.

If you saw the pills/capsules come up with the vomit, I would recommend redosing immediately. If you didn't actually see the medications and it was more than an hour after administration, wait until the next scheduled time. Good luck with your pup!

I would recommend letting your veterinarian know that Bernie vomited a roundworm. It is very common for puppies to have roundworms and the dewormer is most likely killing them off. I would recommend depending on what type of dewormer to deworm again in 2 weeks or change the dewormer. Sometimes it takes a second round of deworming puppies.
