My dog vomited Panacur C for hookworms. Vet closed, what to do?

Rice looking worms are most commonly tapeworm segments. Panacur does not kill tapeworm. However, it is also uncommon for tapes to cause vomiting. Since the vomiting has continued for 24 hours I would highly encourage you to have him seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Gastritis, intestinal foreign body, pancreatitis are all possibilities among other things. They will likely recommend an x-ray and possibly lab work as well. It is not uncommon for dogs to vomit after medication and generally if it is more then 2 hours after the medication should have worked. As the food was undigested it may not have been absorbed as well as anticipated and it may be worth applying a different type of spot on medication, especially if you are in a heartworm affected area. Contact your local vets office for advice on the local risks and benefits of repeating or not

Poor guy. If he vomited within 1 hr of giving the medication, he likely vomited it back up. However, if you are still unsure and didn't see the pill within the vomit, it is best to wait at least 3 days, give a second dose, then wait 2 weeks and give a 3rd dose just to make sure he gets the medication. Hello, sorry to hear about Milo. make sure you are giving him the granules with food. Dogs with worms may have occasional vomiting as well. It would be hard to tell from this point if Milo's medication had enough time to reach the worms. This medication kills worms in the intestines but only small amount get absorbed. Therefore, it would be safest to administer an extra day of this medication with food, then to give an extra dose tonight. However, you should consult with your primary care veterinarian and see if they too recommend administering an extra day of this medication. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi Jo! I'm sorry Billie is quite sick! If she is vomiting worms, it sounds like she has a heavy burden of them, and I would give her a dose of Panacur now. I highly recommend Panacur, it's a great deworming treatment. I would give her another dose in two weeks, then deworm her after another month, then every three months from there. Make sure all the pets in your home are up to date on their deworming treatments as well, as they can pass them back and forth between each other.

If your dog vomited more than an hour after the medication was given it is probably OK and in his system. However, if the dog vomited before an hour had passed then you will need to redose your dog with another round of dewormer. This medication is very safe and redosing should not cause a problem. I always recommend the first time giving nexgard and heartgard to separate them out by 2 days in case there is a reaction we know which drug it could be. Both have the potential to cause an upset stomach. Also having intestinal parasites can cause vomiting and diarrhea. The heatgard kills round worms so that could be why Lucy passed the worm after you gave the medication. Sadly both are possible causes for her upset stomach. Usually all quickly resolve. Just watch her closely for the next several hours. If she continues to vomit or won't eat this morning I would call your Vet when they open this morning and have her seen before they close for the weekend. Good luck!
