Is it safe to get my dog's vaccine boosters early after her spay?

The core vaccines are Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella. She will need boosters for the Distemper and possibly the Bordetella (depends on the vaccine formula). Depending on local disease prevalence, Leptospirosis and Lyme vaccines may also be recommended (these will also need boosters). Yes, it should be fine to do this unless your dog has some type of specific health concern that makes you worried. We routinely vaccinate dogs on the same day as spay/neuter surgery in my practice, and I have never seen any problems related to this.

There is no magical expiration date for vaccination (except for the Rabies vaccine as required by law). We have a strict time frame for which the puppy vaccination series must be done based on puppy immunity. After that, we used to vaccinate every year, but have found that many dogs are protected for years, so we have changed our recommended vaccination protocols. It is not a problem to do them a month early. Then after that, it will only be recommended to repeat her distemper/parvo vaccination booster in 3 years. Great questions! I would wait to socialize Koda at the dog park until she has her rabies vaccine as well to be safe. I would spay her around six months of age, before she has her first heat. I hope this helps!

Some vaccines depend on where you live but the core vaccines are as follows: Distemper/adenovirus/parvo/parainfluenza- this is a combination vaccine given in a series 3-4 weeks apart Rabies- the age given depends on your area but usually at 16 weeks of age The optional vaccines are: Leptospirosis- 2 given 3-4 weeks apart Lyme- 2 given 3-4 weeks apart Bordetella- may or may not be given twice Flu- given 2-3 weeks apart. I recommend contacting a vet to set up an initial appointment. They can go over these in more detail and tailor them to Gnocchi’s lifestyle. Kennel cough vaccines are generally a single dose every 12montgs and ideally i would not give 3days either side of an anesthetic or surgical procedure. It should be administered 7-10days before mixing with other dogs such s in kennels, classes or shows
