When to spay my puppy and can she go to dog park before rabies?

Congratulations on your new puppy! Red can interact with other dogs when he has had all of core vaccines which include rabies, bordetella (kennel cough) and a combination distemper vaccine. His rabies vaccine can be given after he is 12 weeks old and he should receive at least three distemper vaccines (usually given at 6, 9, and 12 weeks). The easiest solution is to have her spayed if you want her to be able to go to dog parks. If not, you will need to monitor her extremely carefully. A female in heat, but not yet ready to mate, will be very aggressive to approaching male dogs. She will only be receptive to males for a brief period during her cycle. During the mating process, the dogs will become physically tied together and you will not be able to separate them. I hope this information helps!

She could have been spayed anytime after 6 months of age. The more heat cycles she goes through, the greater risk she has of developing mammary gland tumors later in life. As she gets older, the risk of uterine infection (pyometra) will also increase. The rabies vaccine should have been administered at between 12-16 weeks of age. She should have received a booster at 1 year of age. After that one, she can get a rabies vaccine every 3 years. The "5 way vaccine", does not include rabies. This vaccine can be given yearly or every 3 years depending on which company makes it.

You can spay Harley and chip her at the same time, I recommend spaying her at six months of age before she goes into her first heat. She is old enough for her first rabies vaccine at 12 weeks of age. You can microchip then too if you want.

Good job on thinking to booster her vaccinations. Her last vaccination needs to be given when she is a minimum of 16 weeks old (4 months) and a minimum of 2 vaccinations. Which based on your timeline I assume Has occurred but you should verify the dates you vaccinated. Also, I am unclear if she was ever vaccinated for rabies virus. This is very important and can only be administered by a veterinarian. You may also want to consider vaccinating for bordetella and possibly canine influenza if your state has had any outbreaks. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Blueberry. Most veterinarians will vaccinate early if it closer to the due dates as long as the patient is healthy. So if she has fully recovered from her spay, it should be fine to vaccinate her at that time. I hope this information helps!
