Dog flu vaccine: Recommended for training? Timing with spaying?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female

We wanted to take out dog for some training after she is spayed. The place we want to take her is currently having an outbreak of kennel cough/Flu and now they may require all dogs to have the flu vaccine in the future. Is this shot recommend? If so it's a two part shot how much time is in between each shot? Also should I do this after she is spayed or start the process now?

Kennel cough vaccines are generally a single dose every 12montgs and ideally i would not give 3days either side of an anesthetic or surgical procedure. It should be administered 7-10days before mixing with other dogs such s in kennels, classes or shows
