Is it safe for my dog to get a vaccine booster and be neutered same day?

We do sometimes end up vaccinating pets the same day of surgery if necessary though it isn’t ideal. Most cases we will perform surgery first and then vaccinate the pet once they have recovered from anesthesia because we do not want to risk them having an adverse/allergic reaction to the vaccine (a rare occurrence) while under anesthesia. Ideally a vaccine would be given prior to surgery but not on the day of, but sometimes this isn’t possible.

In general, it is better to space it out just because both of these procedures (neuter surgery and vaccines) can result in complications or side effects, often times we do them close to each other or at the same time due to logistics and most cats do just fine. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Blueberry. Most veterinarians will vaccinate early if it closer to the due dates as long as the patient is healthy. So if she has fully recovered from her spay, it should be fine to vaccinate her at that time. I hope this information helps!

No, it is common to combine procedures together, such as a lump removal and spay. It's safer for Honey to have anesthesia once for both procedures, as putting her under twice may have more risks. It's also common to give vaccines and a microchip while doing a spay.

I would suggest to vaccinate with both of them when you are back or earlier (either on 22nd or 26th). Generally speaking it is fine to vaccinate with both the same day. No side effects with early vaccination.

The core vaccines are Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella. She will need boosters for the Distemper and possibly the Bordetella (depends on the vaccine formula). Depending on local disease prevalence, Leptospirosis and Lyme vaccines may also be recommended (these will also need boosters).
