My unneutered dogs only had one shot. Can they socialize safely?

The whole cycle for the specific disease that it is used has to be completed and at least 3-4 weeks pass for the dog to really be protected against a disease as that is what the immune system needs to build immunity. So the pup that is vaccinated is not protected yet and should not be taken outside and your other pup should also get vaccinated to get protection against those preventable diseases. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think that socialization is important at this age. There is a fine line between preventing disease and socialization. It is fine for Coco to play with healthy fully vaccinated adult dogs and puppies. No dog parks. She can be walked on side walks. I would always pick up the stool if you think that Coco may want to start eating stool. Teach her to "leave it" early on. Leash walk until you are sure she is trained and isn't going to eat her stool. Stool eating is behavioral and it is hard to go back and teach them not too. Much easier to never allow them to start. As long as Dallas is healthy, it should be fine for Phoenix and Dallas to interact with supervision. Try to avoid or limit any time the puppy spends outside, and do not go to dog parks or pet stores with him until he has received several sets of vaccines. Phoenix is a cutie! It is a balancing act in young puppies as you want to provide them with plenty of socialization, but they are at risk as they are not fully vaccinated. She can be enrolled in puppy classes as long as vaccines are required. If you have a friend with a fully vaccinated dog, this could be a good playmate. I would avoid dog parks, group play scenarios or other areas frequented by potentially unvaccinated or improperly vaccinated dogs. I hope this information helps!

Unfortunately, Maximus is not fully vaccinated at this point, so he should not be going outside. Depending on your state, he can be fully vaccinated by 12 or 16 weeks. If this was his first round of shots, he will need a booster in 2-4 weeks and then his Rabies vaccine at 12-16 weeks as well as his last booster. Maximus should have minimal contact with other dogs (even where other dogs have gone to the bathroom) as you can’t be sure they are not carrying any of the viruses that Maximus is not vaccinated for that can make him very sick. I know it is difficult to keep a large active puppy inside, but your vet can work with you to have Maximus fully vaccinated in a reasonable amount of time.
