My dog has an upset stomach on antibiotics. Can I give him Tums?

My dog went to the vet yesterday, being its after hours now. Hes started to have upset stomach and pain due to the 1500 mg of antibiotics hes on. He also is on a dose of prednisone...can I give tums to eleveate have his stomach? He is 92lbs of chocolate lab

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear that your pup has an upset stomach. While we do not typically recommend Tums for dogs, you can safely give him some Prilosec (omeprazole), to help reduce acid secretion in the stomach and help him feel better. Prilosec generally comes in 20 mg tablets, so he could receive 40 mg orally twice daily. If the clinical signs persist beyond a day or so after trying the Prilosec, I recommend that he be seen by your veterinarian again, as a more serious problem could be present. I hope this is helpful!
