My dog is on prescription meds and has an upset stomach. What to do?

I would recommend calling your vet. They should be able to prescribe a different pain medication that may not upset her GI tract so much or they can give you medication to help treat the diarrhea and that will help her tolerate the meds better. Hello. Sildenafil does not cause any known stomach issues, so no real precautions are needed, but it never hurts to give a medication with a little food ( unless it specifically says to give on an empty stomach ). Sildenafil has no know precautions like this. Kidney failure definitely can cause nausea & vomiting. While we do not typically recommend Tums for dogs, you can safely give him some Prilosec (omeprazole), to help reduce acid secretion in the stomach and help him feel better. Prilosec generally comes in 20 mg tablets, so he could receive 40 mg orally twice daily. If the clinical signs persist beyond a day or so after trying the Prilosec, I recommend that he be seen by your veterinarian again, as a more serious problem could be present. The omeprazole should not interfere with the other meds. You can also do the following: Fast Jack for 12 hours and then put him on bland food for a day, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly. Should this not help or should Jack get lethargic, or get diarrhea or vomiting, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on

I don’t recommend pepto in dogs. It doesn’t seem to do much and some dogs are sensitive to the aspirin component. You can do boiled chicken and cooked white rice, toast without butter, apple sauce, and other bland white human foods. If he isn’t back to normal in a day or two, it would be best to have him checked out by a vet.

If it is temporary (a week or less), its ok for your dog to eat primarily chicken breast or tuna. Try to feed her a little bit of rice mixed with it as well. If she needs to be on medication long term, it would be better to try to formulate a well balanced long term diet that she will eat. Hi and thank you for your question! Indigestion in dogs or acid reflex can be treated with medications Rx through your veterinarian. Legally, I cannot provide drug recommendations or dosage information over the internet. There are a number of acid reducers out there that can help as well as gastric protectants. Some can be found OTC, but only through the direction of your veterinarian. Feeding a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice for a day or so can help. However, I would seek council from your primary care vet on the best treatment for Dogee's indigestion.
