My dog accidentally took Vetprofen too early. What should I do?

25mg of Vetprofen is a large dose for such a small dog. Recommended dosing is usually 12.5mg for a dog his size. I do not know how much medication he has already received at your vet but signs of toxicity usually occur with >20mg/kg doses. Basil could develop gastrointestinal signs including vomiting, GI bleeding, and diarrhea. He should be watched closely and he should not receive another dose for 24 hours or longer if signs of illness occur.

A one time dose of 100 Mg for a 68# dog is not likely to cause any problems. However, I would recommend skipping the next dose. The average dose is about 1 mg per pound every 12 hours, but some veterinarians will give a double dose every 24 hours. So, basically 100 Mg is within an appropriate 24 hour dose for him. Typically we don't like to give two different NSAIDs very close together but that is mostly when a dog has been on one long-term and we want to switch to another. Has only having one dose of previcox a few days is not really concerning. The main reason we worry is the potential for gastric ulceration. If you want to be cautious you could give him some omeprazole for a week but it would be best to contact your vet before adding in any other medications. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Accidents happen! Fortunately, the carprofen won't impact her heart disease or interact with the pimobendan. However, there is a chance that she could experience some stomach upset with vomiting and/or diarrhea, particularly since this is a pretty big dose for a dog her size. With this kind of dose, the worst case I'd expect to see could be ulceration of the GI tract. Normally, carprofen is prescribed at a dose of 4.4 mg/kg over 24 hours. Today, your dog consumed 7.86 mg/kg. In most cases, we don't see toxicity impacting the kidneys until a dose of 40 mg/kg is ingested. With all of that in mind, your dog should be absolutely fine! In order to be extra cautious, I'd recommend feeding her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days, then gradually mix it in with her normal food over 5-7 days. You can also call your vet to see if they can give a dose for an antacid, like Pepcid. (It's illegal for me to do so without having examined your dog.) If you see any vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or blood in the stool, you should call your vet right away. I hope that everything goes well!

Leave out the next dose and Jane should be ok as Carprofen (the active ingredient of Rovera) can be given in a double dose once daily or one dose every 12 hours. Watch her poop for the next teo or three days, if it is black, stop the Rovera and consult your veterinarian. Should Jane get lethargic, start to vomit or get diarrhea, you should also take her to your vet for an exam and blood work.
