I accidentally gave my dog a double dose of Rovera. Is she okay?

It's just slightly above the maximum dose that should be given to your dog, a one time mistake of this dosage is not likely to cause a toxic reaction, do monitor him for vomiting, blood in the stools, lethargy or lack of appetite. if he doesn't show any of these then he should be fine.

Hi there, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Fortunately, in my experience, it's very uncommon for a single extra dose of carprofen to cause any significant problems. With NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) overdoses in dogs, the two things we're most concerned about are stomach ulcers and possible kidney damage. These usually occur with doses above 20 mg/kg, which for a 25 pound dog would be about 227 mg. Since Tootsie only got 50 mg total this morning (about 4.4 mg/kg), it's unlikely that you will see any serious issues related to this. To be safe, you should monitor her for the next 24 hours for any signs of a problem, such as vomiting, acting lethargic, or not eating. If you have any concerns, I would recommend taking her to an emergency clinic to be seen.

Accidents happen! Fortunately, the carprofen won't impact her heart disease or interact with the pimobendan. However, there is a chance that she could experience some stomach upset with vomiting and/or diarrhea, particularly since this is a pretty big dose for a dog her size. With this kind of dose, the worst case I'd expect to see could be ulceration of the GI tract. Normally, carprofen is prescribed at a dose of 4.4 mg/kg over 24 hours. Today, your dog consumed 7.86 mg/kg. In most cases, we don't see toxicity impacting the kidneys until a dose of 40 mg/kg is ingested. With all of that in mind, your dog should be absolutely fine! In order to be extra cautious, I'd recommend feeding her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days, then gradually mix it in with her normal food over 5-7 days. You can also call your vet to see if they can give a dose for an antacid, like Pepcid. (It's illegal for me to do so without having examined your dog.) If you see any vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or blood in the stool, you should call your vet right away. I hope that everything goes well!

Normally, a one-time double dose of Rimadyl will not cause any serious problems - but if you're concerned, you can always call the vet who prescribed the medication to ask they want you to bring Rocky in. If Rocky has any vomiting over the next 2-3 days, acts lethargic or doesn't want to eat, then I would recommend having him checked by a vet.

I would not worry at this point but I suggest you not give her any more Vetprofen until 24 hours after the last dose. If you have some Pepcid (famotidine) 10mg on-hand you can give her one of those daily for the next few days to protect her stomach. If you notice any vomiting or not eating get her to your vet ASAP. A one time double dose of deramaxx should not cause major problems. Signs to watch for anytime they are on an anti inflammatory medication include decreased appetite, vomiting, or dark back stool. If any of these signs are noted stop the deramaxx and call your vet. Baron should do ok!!
