What is this tissue coming out of my dog's nose? Vet is stumped.

I think you need to get a second opinion from another vet, preferably one who has a rhinoscope and can actually look into your dog's upper respiratory passages. By examining the nasal passages with a rhinoscope one will be able to see whether there is a tumor present or more plant debris or foreign material that may need to be removed and so stop the constant infections and bleeding. Your vet may be able to refer you to a relevant clinic.

I am so sorry to hear about Chyna. Your vet may have some recommendations for palliative care for Chyna, which might include a steroid such as prednisone to shrink the size of the tumor (unfortunately this is usually a temporary effect so won't last forever). This may help with the bleeding. Other medications they may consider could include a drug called Cerenia which can sometimes decrease inflammation and help with sneezing in some cases. To help with bleeding the vet may recommend nasal drops with neosynephrine which may help constrict blood vessels, or a chinese herb called Yunnan Baiyao which can help with bleeding problems.

Poor Yogi! It’s hard to know if this is related to the tumor or a problem by itself. Since you saw the blood in the phlegm, I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian. Even if this is related to the tumor there are medications that can control inflammation and keep him more comfortable. One thing you can do at home that may help us start him on an omega-3 fatty acid supplement for dogs. This will act as a natural anti-inflammatory and improve the lining of the respiratory tract. It does look more cyst-like, but we never can tell for sure just by looking. If it's swelling and bleeding, then I think it's time to take it off. This type of tumor can likely be removed with light sedation and local anesthesia (numbing the area where it will be cut) - this would be favorable considering Dustin's other health problems. After removing it, the vet can inspect it and send to the lab if necessary in order to find out exactly what this is. It may help with identifying the nasal tumor if this hasn't been done. At 13 years of age, a nasal tumor would be most likely. A tumor typically would cause bleeding out of just one nostril. Other possibilities would be a severe bacterial infection, tooth root abscess, nasal foreign material (I've seen dogs that had toy stuffing in the nose), or fungal infection. Unfortunately anesthesia for nasal scoping and often CT scan is usually necessary to get a diagnosis.

Nose bleeds that are persistent in an older dog are highly suspicious of cancer or a fungal infection. Trauma to the nose is also possible, but unlikely to result in chronic bleeding episodes. I am so sorry but Bubbalina needs to be seen by your vet right away for testing (Bloodwork +.- radiographs). If cancer is present, then steroids may be recommended to try and slow down the progression and also supportive care can be provided to Bubbalina to hopefully make her more comfortable. Hello there! This is most likely a benign lump called a histiocytoma, which is a common condition that shows up on the face and paws in young dogs. This can only be confirmed by a veterinarian, by considering the size, shape, location, and the age of your dog, it's the most likely cause. I recommend a visit to your vet so that they may offer a definitive diagnosis. They will give Nikki a full exam, and most likely they will obtain a small sample of the cells inside the mass with a small needle. This is called a fine needle aspirate, or FNA. These cells will be examined under a microscope so that the vet can rule out other, more dangerous tumors. Histiocytomas most often spontaneously resolve on their own, but it can take weeks or months to go away completely. Some owners prefer to have them surgically removed, which is usually curative. If Nikki starts scratching at the lump, or if it becomes irritated or starts oozing, a visit to the vet is definitely in order as it could cause an infection.
