Dog snorting, noisy breathing, and blood: Is it related to illness?

I am so sorry to hear about Chyna. Your vet may have some recommendations for palliative care for Chyna, which might include a steroid such as prednisone to shrink the size of the tumor (unfortunately this is usually a temporary effect so won't last forever). This may help with the bleeding. Other medications they may consider could include a drug called Cerenia which can sometimes decrease inflammation and help with sneezing in some cases. To help with bleeding the vet may recommend nasal drops with neosynephrine which may help constrict blood vessels, or a chinese herb called Yunnan Baiyao which can help with bleeding problems.

To be honest, it sounds like your vet has done a lot to rule out the most common causes of this noisy breathing starting with the least invasive procedures first (medications in case it was a respiratory infection). Given that there has been no improvement in his symptoms, the fact that they have gotten worse, and the fact Jones is a Lab, I would be thinking it's cancer as well. Unfortunately, cancer is common in Labs. You can see if your vet will take an x-ray of his nasal passages. That will be show if there is a tumor in his nasal passages, and it may be less expensive than the biopsy. I am sorry :-(

Oh my! Poor baby. I had another case similar to this and I took a piece of the tissue and sent it in for biopsy and also a bacterial and fungal culture. I would talk to your vet about doing this. I think this is the first step. You can also look up the herb yunnan bai Yao and talk to your vet about this to help control the bleeding. If it is a tumor, there isn’t much you can do about it unless you want to go see a specialist. A specialist could potentially remove it to help him feel better. Surgically removing it may not be curative. I hope this helps o guide you in his treatment.

At 13 years of age, a nasal tumor would be most likely. A tumor typically would cause bleeding out of just one nostril. Other possibilities would be a severe bacterial infection, tooth root abscess, nasal foreign material (I've seen dogs that had toy stuffing in the nose), or fungal infection. Unfortunately anesthesia for nasal scoping and often CT scan is usually necessary to get a diagnosis.

Nose bleeds that are persistent in an older dog are highly suspicious of cancer or a fungal infection. Trauma to the nose is also possible, but unlikely to result in chronic bleeding episodes. I am so sorry but Bubbalina needs to be seen by your vet right away for testing (Bloodwork +.- radiographs). If cancer is present, then steroids may be recommended to try and slow down the progression and also supportive care can be provided to Bubbalina to hopefully make her more comfortable. Glad to hear Yogi is eating again but he definitely sounds like he has some serious issues going on that require attention. Blood in the chest cavity can be caused by a variety of conditions including trauma, rat poisoning, bodily coagulation disorders, cancers, and blood flow issues. If your vet has not already, Yogi should also have clotting times assessed. This will require another blood draw. With Yogi being an older dog and you not reporting any sort of trauma, the most likely causes of these symptoms would have to be either poisoning or a cancerous process. The test your vet has sent out should shed some light on this. Hope this answers your question.

Causes of nose bleeds are: trauma, foreign body in the nose, bacterial or fungal infections, low platelets, clotting disorders, cancer, tick borne diseases. The nose bleed could be from the chemo knocking her platelets down too low or sadly it could be that the lymphoma is in her nasal cavity. I recommend you take her to your Vet or her oncologist and have them run a CBC to check her platelets. They can also put her on a Chinese herbal remedy that can help stop bleeding called Yunnan Baiyao. I wish Daisy the best!!
