My dog has a bump for months, not growing. Should I be concerned?

This is likely a harmless wart, especially since it has not changed in size or shape for many months. Continue monitoring it and if it changes in shape, size or color have your veterinarian examine it. Your vet may then want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning.

This is probably not serious. I recommend feeling it and writing down how big it is every month. I don’t expect it to change but if it does start to grow or becomes painful then please take him in for an exam. I would also point this out to your veterinarian at his yearly exam. The best thing to do since it does not bother him is monitor the growth. If it changes or get larger or seems painful then I would have it checked immediately. If it does not go away after 2 months then I would have it checked. It may be a cyst or abscess or tumor.

It could be a cyst, a wart, or some other benign or malignant growth. The only way to know for certain what a bump is is to take a sample of cells with a needle or biopsy for examination under a microscope. If it seems to bother your dog or appears to be growing rapidly, be sure to have this lesion checked out in the next week or two. Otherwise, if your dog isn't bothered and the lesion doesn't seem to be changing much, I would recommend having it checked out by a vet in the next couple of months.

As long as she is otherwise acting ok, it is not growing rapidly, and/or has a discharge then you could wait and take her this weekend. Your vet can do a needle aspirate to help determine the cause and determine if the lump needs to be removed or treated.

I wouldn't be concerned at just this moment unless it is causing discomfort or gets bigger/changes color/ changes firmness, etc. Then it should be examined by a vet to determine if it needs to be removed.
