My dog threw up a white worm. Does he have worms if I see no others?

The worms in Herbie's vomit indicate he does have intestinal worms. You often don't see worms in the poop unless there is a very heavy infestation of them. The eggs are what are deposited in the feces, and those can only be seen with a microscope. Herbie needs a deworming treatment, and I recommend Panacur which you can get OTC. He will need another deworming treatment two weeks after the first to kill all the worms, and then will need one once a month until he is six months old. After that, he will need a deworming treatment every three months.

Those look like they are probably roundworms. She would have gotten them from coming into contact with infective eggs in the soil most likely. (From where another dog pooped and that poop contained roundworm eggs, then your dog was nosing around near where that was (even if there was no obvious poop on the ground, the eggs will stay in the soil). It was likely a roundworm. It can be gross seeing these come up in the vomitus. You can give her one of two dewormers, found at your local pet or feed store: Pyrantel Palmoate or Fenbendazole. The dosage should be written right on the label; however they may be in generic form so just look for those active ingredients and you have found what she needs. YOu also want to treat her again in 2 weeks, because that is the life cycle of the worm. I would consider keeping Ace on a monthly heartworm prevention from here moving forward, because they all (except for Proheart) contain intestinal dewormer as well. That does not look like a normal intestinal worm. Intestinal worms are white or light yellow. I suspect this is something he ate. Wrap it up in a baggie and take it to be examined by your veterinarian. To be safe, have the store checked for worms since some rooms can be spread to humans.
