My dog vomited white stringy things. Are they worms or parasites?

That does not look like a normal intestinal worm. Intestinal worms are white or light yellow. I suspect this is something he ate. Wrap it up in a baggie and take it to be examined by your veterinarian. To be safe, have the store checked for worms since some rooms can be spread to humans. You can get an over-the-counter broad spectrum dewormer like Strongid or Panacur from most pet stores to get rid of them, if you wish - just follow the instructions on the label for dosing, based on their weight. Or if you prefer, take a fecal sample to your vet's office to be checked. They can tell you for sure if you're seeing roundworms or some other type of parasite, and will prescribe an appropriate dewormer to treat your pups depending on what is found.

Yes, it sounds like Opie definitely has worms - the long, skinny worm that you saw was probably a roundworm. These parasites are very common in young dogs - most of the time, you won't actually see them in the stool but your vet can diagnose them with a decal exam under the microscope. You can get a broad spectrum dewormer like Strongid or Panacur over the counter that will get rid of the worms, or get medication from your vet if you prefer.

It would be worthwhile taking a sample to your vets office to confirm exactly what species they are but if long and thin they are likely to be a roundworm species and not tapeworm (flat segments and often moving). I recommend that you have Mishu evaluated by a veterinarian to work the vomiting as this may be due to worms for instance, or something else like a gastrointestinal foreign body, among other possibilities. Oh no, poor Vegas! Worms that resemble maggots, or grains of rice, are most commonly tapeworm segments. These can be acquired by ingesting either rodents or fleas infected with tapeworms. It would be ideal to take Vegas to her vet for an exam and stool sample analysis to more precisely determine the cause of these worms. However, since she is acting normally and has not had further vomiting, you can consider deworming her with over the counter deworming medication containing praziquantel. Also be sure that she is receiving a high quality flea preventative regularly, such as Nexgard, Bravecto, or K9 Advantix II. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

From the picture it it looks like some type of maggot. I am suspicious that he probably ate this and that it isn’t a parasite. However, if vomiting continues he should be evaluated by your veterinarian. Also taking in a fresh poop sample to look for intestinal parasite eggs.
