My dog threw up a worm. How do I identify, treat, and prevent it?

Thank you for the picture, it's very helpful. That looks like a roundworm. Jessie needs a deworming treatment, I recommend Drontal or Panacur. Give her a dose of Drontal or Panacur now, then another in two weeks. After that, she should get the medication once a month to prevent further issues with worms. I hope this helps!

I recommend that you have Emma evaluated by your veterinarian to start her on a dewormer. Intestinal worms are very easily treatable and usually clinical symptoms resolve. The best medication for this is usually chosen based on a fecal examination to determine which parasite is affecting Ace. The same deworming medication can be given to your other dog. This is a roundworm. He is old enough to give pyrantel a safe dewormer that is for roundworms and hook worms. That dewormer is inexpensive. You may be able to purchase it at your pet or feed store depending on where you live. Otherwise your veterinarian can deworm him. Proton should be dewormed every two weeks until a stool sample comes back negative. When he is old enough to start heartworm medication that also will prevent another parasite infection. Please keep the children away from his poop and wash their hands and yours after handling Proton. People can get roundworms but it is not common with normal hygiene. Hi there. You can get a broad-spectrum dewormer for dogs such as Panacur or Bayer Quad Dewormer, and give it according to the directions on the package. Nexgard is a flea/tick medication, and does not treat worms. Without knowing what type of worm it was, I can't say if it's contagious to your other dogs or not. The safest option would be to go ahead and deworm all of the dogs in the household.

Oh no, poor Vegas! Worms that resemble maggots, or grains of rice, are most commonly tapeworm segments. These can be acquired by ingesting either rodents or fleas infected with tapeworms. It would be ideal to take Vegas to her vet for an exam and stool sample analysis to more precisely determine the cause of these worms. However, since she is acting normally and has not had further vomiting, you can consider deworming her with over the counter deworming medication containing praziquantel. Roundworms and stomach worms are possible and can cause a significant amount of damage if left untreated. Additionally, roundworms are zoonotic meaning people can contract them through infestation with their larvae, necessitating treatment. As long as she isn't acting sick, just make an appointment to have her examined by a veterinarian within a few days and a fecal examination performed to determine what kind of worms they are and what the best medication is to treat Diamond for them.
