My puppy has spaghetti-like worms in poop and vomit. What now?

My puppies both have a ringworm on their poop and on their vomit. What should i do?

I'm sorry to hear that you're seeing worms in Lucky and Kieron's poop and vomit! "Ringworm" is actually a term for a fungal skin infection, so I'm assuming you mean that you're seeing roundworms - these look like long, thin spaghetti noodles. You can get an over-the-counter broad spectrum dewormer like Strongid or Panacur from most pet stores to get rid of them, if you wish - just follow the instructions on the label for dosing, based on their weight.

Or if you prefer, take a fecal sample to your vet's office to be checked. They can tell you for sure if you're seeing roundworms or some other type of parasite, and will prescribe an appropriate dewormer to treat your pups depending on what is found.

Hi there. Long, thin "spaghetti noodle" worms are typically roundworms - these are very common in puppies. If the pup is acting normal otherwise, you can get a broad-spectrum dewormer such as Strongid or Panacur at most pet stores that should be effective at getting rid of the worms.

Those are probably roundworms which are a common parasite of puppies and young dogs. You can purchase dewormer for roundworms at PetCo. Otherwise if you want to know if there are other intestinal parasites as well then bring in a fecal sample to your veterinarian and they will examine it under the microscope and prescribe an effective dewormer. Mookie will need to be dewormed again in two to three weeks. Please read the label and give any medication according to the directions. My puppy threw up worms, but I don't see them in his poop. Why?

The worms in Herbie's vomit indicate he does have intestinal worms. You often don't see worms in the poop unless there is a very heavy infestation of them. The eggs are what are deposited in the feces, and those can only be seen with a microscope. Herbie needs a deworming treatment, and I recommend Panacur which you can get OTC. He will need another deworming treatment two weeks after the first to kill all the worms, and then will need one once a month until he is six months old. After that, he will need a deworming treatment every three months.

Those look like they are probably roundworms. She would have gotten them from coming into contact with infective eggs in the soil most likely. (From where another dog pooped and that poop contained roundworm eggs, then your dog was nosing around near where that was (even if there was no obvious poop on the ground, the eggs will stay in the soil). It is not a result of the food. You can get effective roundworm treatment over the counter. Look for a pyrantel product and follow the label instructions. Feed stores will generally carry it. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That looks like a roundworm. These are very common parasites in puppies and he will likely get medication for it at tomorrow’s visit. These worms are contagious to other animals (cats) and humans if anyone ingestes the feces. As long as your cats aren’t walking through Kodas poop they will be fine and be sure to wash your hands after you clean up after Koda and you will be fine. Kisses to Koda!
