My puppy has parvo and threw up medicine. Should I redose immediately?

I would not recommend residing the medication since it is impossible to know how much he may have absorbed. You may want to ask your vet if injectable medications might be an option, or if there are other anti-nausea medications to try. I’m hoping Charlie makes a full recovery!

Poor guy. If he vomited within 1 hr of giving the medication, he likely vomited it back up. However, if you are still unsure and didn't see the pill within the vomit, it is best to wait at least 3 days, give a second dose, then wait 2 weeks and give a 3rd dose just to make sure he gets the medication. If your dog vomited more than an hour after the medication was given it is probably OK and in his system. However, if the dog vomited before an hour had passed then you will need to redose your dog with another round of dewormer. This medication is very safe and redosing should not cause a problem. You can give a dose now an then match the next dose for the same time 12 hours later (ie: 9am/9pm). And then tomorrow go back to the 7am/7pm schedule if that is what works best for you. Dosing should be at least 8 hours apart. Hope this answers your question. Best wishes.

Do not let him have anything by mouth to try to get his stomach to rest for 4-6 hours. Dehydration is still a concern given his size with the vomiting continuing despite the fluids he is getting. shaking can be a sign of cold or pain. Abdominal cramping is a major problem with parvo and he may need medication for that. Parvo is very aggressive and hard to treat and watch. Just keep with the medication and the IV fluids .

Since parvovirus causes damage to the intestines and therefore wnables intestinal bacteria to enter the blood stream , your puppy needs to be treated with antibiotics that cover a variety of bacteria (gram positive and gram negative). Metronidazole kills those bacteria and also seems to have a positive effect on the immune system, so it is the antibiotic of choice in parvovirus infections. We always weigh up the advantages (treating the infection) vs the disadvantages (side effects) when prescribing medications, so in this case the advantages outweigh the side effects and Metronidazole is indicated. Your puppy should aslo receive fluids and pain medication. You should also try to feed it very small amounts of wet food very often in order to keep its intestines working. It is usually best to hospitalize the puppy for a few days.

Hi there. No, if you did not see the pill in the fluid he vomited, you shouldn't need to re-dose the prednisone - it would not have had time to fully dissolve this quickly, so if you didn't see it come up, it should still be in his stomach.
