My puppy's eyes are swollen and red with a bump. Allergic reaction?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 19 days old | 60 lbs

We have a lot puppy, he is 7 months old. he went out in the backyard like he does everyday, all day long. he comes in and his eyes are swollen and red. I put the drops in his eyes, and have him Benadryl. He has a bump on his shoulder. I have no idea what he got into. He is still eating etc.

Hello. It does sound like Zeus is having some kind of allergic reaction. You have done all you can at home, so if he seems to be getting worse, you will absolutely need to see your veterinarian for further treatment. Hopefully, he will start doing better soon. The lesion on Zeus’s eyelid is quite prominent. It’s pretty unusual for these lesions to pop up overnight and in both eyes. Given his very young age and how suddenly they occurred, I would be most suspicious of an infection rather than other benign or malignant masses. Ultimately, Zeus needs to be examined by his vet, as this is most likely an issue that requires prescription medication. If Zeus is able to comfortably open and close his eyes without any squinting, redness, or rubbing/scratching of his eyes, then you can have him examined by your vet in the next day or two. However, if he’s bothered by his eyes, you’ll need to have him examined more urgently, possibly by an emergency vet. Until his appointment, be sure to prevent him from scratching or rubbing at his eyes by using an ecollar (cone). You can also apply warm washcloth compresses to both eyes 3-4 times per day until his appointment, as this may provide a bit of temporary relief. I hope that Zeus is on the mend soon!

This is possibly due to an allergic reaction or it could even be an actual on going allergy to something like fleas, food or an allergen in the environment. Allergic reactions are usually treated with anti-histamine medications such as Benadryl and steroids. Cameron should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They could start therapy for this to see if it improves. In most cases it does improve and resolve and if no further exposures to the antigen occur, then this would not recur. Hopefully he does great! He is adorable! Good luck!

If he experience severe facial swelling or difficulty breathing, then he will need to see an emergency veterinarian today. My dog has a bump on his eyelid. Is it a bite or allergic reaction?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It very definitely can be an allergic reaction to a sting or bite. If it is not bothering him, then there is probably not too much to worry about, You can apply a cold compress to the area ( a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel works well ) for 5-10 minutes every hour or so, but if he begins whining, scratching his face, or pawing at his eyes, you may need to run him in to your vet for steroids, &/or antihistamines. Hopefully, it will start to go down soon. Take care.

Hi, thanks of using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Zenya is super cute! She does have puffy eyes. It could be from an allergic reaction to an insect bite or to allergies outside. The mainstay of treatment for allergic reactions is an injection of a steroid and an antihistamine from your Vet. They may prescribe an ointment for her eyes as well. I recommend that you set up an appointment for Zenya tomorrow with your Vet. I wish Zenya a speedy recovery!

My puppy has a swollen eye bump. What is it and what should I do?

Poor guy. I see this a lot in cases of an insect bite. I would recommend antihistamines to help reduce the swelling. Contact your vet for your pets specific recommended antihistamine of choice and dosage since we are not allowed to recommend specific medications to give your pet without first examining him. The antihistamine should help reduce the swelling of my suspicions are correct. Sometimes the swelling will even go down on its own, especially if it doesn’t seem to spread to any other part of Rocket’s body. Dog has swollen eye, bumps, and trouble breathing. What should I do?

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if your dog is lethargic, take Chevy to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.
