My Pomeranian has puffy eyes. Could it be allergies? How to help?

Yes, it could be allergy related. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cotton! When it comes to eye issues I recommend a Vet examine the pet. Cotton's eyes could be swollen from an allergic reaction to an insect/spider bite or from some allergen outside or from an infection. The mainstay of treatment for an allergic reaction are steroids and antihistamines. An infection is treated with antibiotics and steroids. Your Vet will want to be sure the eye balls themselves are ok and don't have a scratch on them (corneal ulcer). I hope this helps and I wish Cotton a speedy recovery!

When a dog gets bitten by an insect or wasp/bee the eyes (or entire face) swells up and becomes itchy. It may be reaction to pollen and plants but insect bites are more common in this part of the year. When the eyes are swollen and itchy you can put cold compresses on the eyes. In most of the cases, administering anti-histamine medication (like Benadryl) is also OK, but please, confirm with your local vets that Kali can have Benadryl, if necessary. Small skin scratches are most likely due to excessive scratching. It is something that should be avoided, if Kali becomes itchy again. The best way to avoid self-inflicted wounds is a head cone.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Daisy! From your picture, it appears as though Daisy's eye lid is swollen in corner (by her nose). This can be from an infection or an allergic reaction. If she is squinting her eye, keeping it closed, rubbing it, the eye is producing green-yellow discharge I recommend she be seen today. If not make an appointment to have her seen Monday.
