My dog has severe allergies, dry skin, swollen eye. What should I do?

Hello. It does sound like Zeus is having some kind of allergic reaction. You have done all you can at home, so if he seems to be getting worse, you will absolutely need to see your veterinarian for further treatment. Hopefully, he will start doing better soon. I would worry that the swelling might be due to an eyelid infection or allergic reaction, and Goodwinol would not treat these problems. It's also possible that the Goodwinol would cause irritation so close to the eye. I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian since oral medications like antibiotics might be necessary. If Zeppelin is squinting or other areas of his face seem swollen I'd recommend seeing your vet.

Do not give any or apply anything into Oliver's eyes without the advice of your veterinarian. Contact your vet about giving an antihistamine in addition to Apoquel to Oliver for relief. There are OTC antihistamines that can be used in dogs as well as several prescription options. Discuss dosing with your vet as, legally, we are unable to recommend medications and dosing in the absence of a patient-vet-client relationship and a physical exam.

If Chopper does have allergies, antihistamines may provide some relief. He should first be examined by your veterinarian though, to rule out injury or infection. Your vet can recommend an OTC antihistamine or may dispense one for Chopper after the exam. For now, if he is pawing or rubbing his eyes, place an e-collar (cone) on him until he sees the vet.

He looks to be generally itchy. I'm suspicious of allergies causing this, but it could be due to mange, fleas, or other causes. The eye may be a separate problem, or related to the allergies. Without seeing it, it's difficult to tell the cause of this, or the severity, but the fact that it's swollen shut warrants a visit to the vet. I recommend having him seen by a vet within the next 24 hours to prevent serious complications with the eye. The vet can also help narrow-down the cause of the itch and provide medication to help give him some relief. One thing you can do for itchy skin, is give a bath with cool water using an oatmeal or aloe shampoo. You can get these shampoos at the pet store. For now, you can flush the eye with normal saline. Saline flush can be bought at the pharmacy, or supermarket in the eye care section. Flush the eye 3-4 times daily and gently wipe away the discharge with a warm/moist cotton or cloth. Hi, thanks of using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Zenya is super cute! She does have puffy eyes. It could be from an allergic reaction to an insect bite or to allergies outside. The mainstay of treatment for allergic reactions is an injection of a steroid and an antihistamine from your Vet. They may prescribe an ointment for her eyes as well. I recommend that you set up an appointment for Zenya tomorrow with your Vet. I wish Zenya a speedy recovery!

I would try Vetericyn Antimicrobial Ophthalmic Gel, which you can find at PetCo.
