My dog's eye is swollen with red bumps. Is it an allergic reaction?

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 75 lbs

This morning I noticed that my 4 year old boxers eye was swollen and also has red bumps on his chests and groin area. He is fixed but it seems that his privet area is red and swollen. He has not changed food or treats, and no sign of fleas on him or my other dogs.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Berkley. He may be experiencing an allergic reaction. It could be to something in his diet (even if nothing new has been introduced) or environment. If he experience severe facial swelling or difficulty breathing, then he will need to see an emergency veterinarian today. Otherwise, he should see his regular veterinarian tomorrow to determine if this is the case and if he needs treatment. I hope this information helps!

He may be having an allergic reaction from getting bitten or stung by something or rubbed his nose against something to cause an irritation. Try to clean the area and flush his eye with saline eye drops to help. You can give an over the counter antihistamine such as benadryl to help

If you notice any discharge or any swelling or hives, then i would get him seen by your vet as this is a sign the reaction is getting worse or there is an infection.

According to the history it sounds like it is an allergic reaction, because of the swelling of the eye i would recommend taking him to the vet ASAP in order to get an anti histamine injection that will help reducing the swelling from the allergic reaction.

I am so sorry to hear about your puppy! He definitely needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible to evaluate this eye. The shifted appearance could be due to a periorbital swelling or damage to the extraocular muscles or nerves affecting the eye. I would get him in right away to ensure the best outcome possible!

Thank you for providing a picture of Squishy's eye! From the picture, it looks as if he may have a problem with his third eyelid, not a stye. It appears that the third eyelid is quite swollen, and this can be a sign of trauma to the eye or an eye infection. I would have him seen by a vet today if possible or first thing Monday. It's very important to have any eye problem checked out promptly because leaving them untreated can lead to vision loss. The vet can diagnose what is causing this and can treat it. I hope this helps!

My dog has eye swelling & face bumps. Allergies or something else?

If this happened within a few hours, then allergies would be my first suspicion. However, it appears that there are areas of hair loss around the eyes and on the face. If this has been more gradual (like in the span of a week or more), then my top suspicion is demodectic mange. This is a microscopic mite that is normally found on the skin and can get out of control in certain conditions. You will have to take Koho to the vet in order to get this diagnosed and adequately treated. These conditions are usually quickly diagnosed and we can normally get a diagnosis and treatment plan at the first consult. I hope that helps and Koho gets better soon.

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if your dog is lethargic, take Chevy to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It very definitely can be an allergic reaction to a sting or bite. If it is not bothering him, then there is probably not too much to worry about, You can apply a cold compress to the area ( a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel works well ) for 5-10 minutes every hour or so, but if he begins whining, scratching his face, or pawing at his eyes, you may need to run him in to your vet for steroids, &/or antihistamines. Hopefully, it will start to go down soon. Take care.

Why is my puppy's face swollen, eyes red, and testicles bumpy?

This is possibly due to an allergic reaction or it could even be an actual on going allergy to something like fleas, food or an allergen in the environment. Allergic reactions are usually treated with anti-histamine medications such as Benadryl and steroids. Cameron should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They could start therapy for this to see if it improves. In most cases it does improve and resolve and if no further exposures to the antigen occur, then this would not recur. Why does my dog have sudden swollen bumps on his eye, ear, and body?

Poor Levi.....his eyelid is really swollen! Since the bumps just appear they could be hives from some type of allergic reaction. Since his eyelid so so swollen and red, it would be a good idea to have him examined by a vet for treatment. An anti-histamine and corticosteroid may be needed to help. Hope he gets better soon!
