My dog's eye is swollen and lid drooping, but she acts normal. Why?

This looks like a swelling of Poppy's conjunctiva as opposed to the eye itself. It could be due to an allergic reaction or infection such as conjunctivitis. She will need eye drops and antinflammatories to settle this down so go to your vet as soon as you can. In the mean time pressing a cooled tea bag on the outside of the eye can provide some relief.

Hello. This could be some type of allergic reaction. Apply a warm compress to the area twice a day for 10-15 minutes at a time. You will need to keep the water quite warm, but not uncomfortable. Poor girl. Because she is keeping her eye closed, it is very likely she has a scratch or ulcer on her cornea (eye surface). Because of this type of injury, Suziee Lu will need to see your vet to have the eye checked. If there is a scratch, as suspected, then she will need topical prescription eye medication to get this to heal properly. It is ok to wipe the outside of the lid with warm salt water until you can get her in to your vet for further care. Have your dog seen by a vet. Your dog could have an eye infection or may have injury his eye. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss.

This could be due to an infection, or fluid build-up under the skin. If Seb is otherwise eating/drinking and acting normal, then there's no need to rush to the emergency vet. This can wait until tomorrow during normal business hours. These type of swellings can happen with tooth-root infections, or if Seb hit his face on something earlier. Poor Sassy! That is very swollen. If it is just the eyelid that is affected, it should be fine to wait until tomorrow to take her to the vet, but if anything gets worse overnight, I would take her right in. If you see signs such as squinting, redness, drainage from the eye, or a cloudiness in the clear part of the eye, I would take her in tonight. Injuries to the eyeball can be very serious and get worse very quickly. I hope this helps and that Sassy gets better very soon!

I consider any swelling of the eye to be an emergency. It may simply be a touch of conjunctivitis but potentially there could be damage to the cornea, or a similar more serious injury. You can soothe the eye with a cooled tea bag for immediate relief, but I would have it checked asap.
