Why is my dog's eyelid swollen, but he's acting completely normal?

Hello. It appears that the upper eyelid is inflamed. This is a condition called blepharitis. It could be an allergic reaction to something in the park. You can apply warm compresses to the area alternating with cool compresses to help relieve the swelling. (3-4 times a day). If it has not improved in the next 24-48 hours, I would have your vet examine her and determine if further treatment is needed.

This could be due to an infection, or fluid build-up under the skin. If Seb is otherwise eating/drinking and acting normal, then there's no need to rush to the emergency vet. This can wait until tomorrow during normal business hours. These type of swellings can happen with tooth-root infections, or if Seb hit his face on something earlier. Poor Alpha! The most common reasons for swollen eyes are bee strings/bug bites or an allergic reaction (of which you generally never know the cause). Trauma or something stuck in the eye could also cause swelling in the area. Carefully check the area for any stingers or marks. You can apply a cold (not cold) compress to the area. Unfortunately, unless you find a stinger, you won't know the cause. You must also protect the area from rubbing with an elizabethan collar since rubbing could make it worse. I recommend to play it safe and have Alpha examined by the veterinarian today. The doctor will check the eye as well as look for clues as to the cause. If an allergic reaction is suspected, he will likely receive an injectable antihistamine and possible a steroid or anti-inflammatory. Just like with humans, some pets may experience an anaphylactic reaction. Monitor your dog for signs of an allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, general weakness or a progression of swelling. If you see any of those signs this could indicate a serious anaphylactic reaction and you need to take him into the vet immediately. Also, if the swelling doesn't go down after 24 hours, take him into your vet. Best of luck.

Eye problems are always very concerning and Pup Pup will need to be examined by a veterinarian ASAP. Corneal ulcers and injuries can cause loss of vision, are painful and can be caused even by crusty eye lids scraping on the eye ball. The fact that the eye is swollen and the the lower lid is drooping does point to a more serious problem. Please take her to an emergency vet today.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It very definitely can be an allergic reaction to a sting or bite. If it is not bothering him, then there is probably not too much to worry about, You can apply a cold compress to the area ( a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel works well ) for 5-10 minutes every hour or so, but if he begins whining, scratching his face, or pawing at his eyes, you may need to run him in to your vet for steroids, &/or antihistamines. This looks like a swelling of Poppy's conjunctiva as opposed to the eye itself. It could be due to an allergic reaction or infection such as conjunctivitis. She will need eye drops and antinflammatories to settle this down so go to your vet as soon as you can. In the mean time pressing a cooled tea bag on the outside of the eye can provide some relief.
