My dog chewed a soda can. What if she swallowed small metal pieces?

The biggest concerrn is that your dog may have not only chewed up but also swallowed pieces of the aluminum cans. Shards of aluminum cans can be quite sharp and can get stuck in the mouth, throat, esophagus, and intestines. Try to look inside your dog's mouth to see if there are any signs of cuts or pieces of can stuck in the mouth or throat. To help any pieces of aluminum pass through, you can give your dog something to bulk up the stools. Add 1 Tsp canned pumpkin per 10 lbs to its food, giving a bran muffin, or add 1 Tsp of Metamucil (for small dogs) or 2 Tsp of Metamucil (for large dogs) once or twice a day. Monitor your dog closely for the next 24-48 hours. If your dog starts to vomit, has diarrhea or doesn't not defecate, has a tender abdomen, or seems uncomfortable, then you will need to take your dog to your veterinarian.

It will either pass through or it could potential get stuck and cause an obstruction. If she chewed it in pieces than it will likely pass through without getting stuck. It may cause some inflammation in her intestines and you may notice some diarrhea. If she starts vomitng, becomes lethargic, or stops eating than she needs to be seen right away.

That's not a very big piece of tin foil, and hopefully it should pass without problem, but there is always the chance it could get stuck. I would monitor her over the next 72 hours for signs of obstruction, which include vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, lethargy, and constipation. Should you see any of those signs, I would take her into the vet right away.

This is a potentially serious problem. A piece of copper may cause copper toxicity which can damage the liver or be fatal. Inducing vomiting may be dangerous, so that decision should be left up to your veterinarian. An abdominal x-ray can be taken to confirm or rule out an ingestion. If Kalli did swallow a piece, it should be removed as soon as possible. This may require endoscopy or surgery.

If Ella chewed on the sewing kit but did not actually ingest any of the material I would not be very concerned. It is possible that she chewed on the material but did not ingest any of it. IF she did ingest a small amount of plastic or material it could pass in her stool. As long as she is eating and drinking normally I would monitor her stool for any passing of material. At any time if she is not eating, painful, vomiting or having no defection I would be concerned about a possible blockage and recommend taking her to the vet for an abdominal x-ray. A tiny piece of plastic like this is unlikely to cause any problems with Ella. You can monitor her for signs of GI obstruction which would include vomiting, decreased appetite, abdominal pain, and lethargy. If these occur, then she should see her vet right away, but I don't expect that to occur with the small amounts she may have ingested, they will likely just pass through her GI tract. You can feed her something high in fiber to help the passing, such as a piece of whole wheat bread or a teaspoon or two of canned pumpkin.
