Why is my dog straining to pee, has a swollen penis, and drinks a lot?

It looks as though Spencer's abdomen is quite distended in the region of his bladder. The fact that he's urinating very little, if at all, makes me concerned that he could have a urinary obstruction that is preventing him from emptying his bladder. If his bladder is truly this full, there is a risk that it could rupture, which would be life-threatening. I'm glad to hear that he's still eating and sleeping okay, but with his urinary changes and abdominal distention, I do think there is cause for concern. As a result, I'd recommend taking him to your vet right away or an ER if your vet is unable to see him within the next few hours. I hope that everything goes well!

Poor Jay! It's extremely serious that he has a swollen penis, and if it's purple in color, I would be concerned that the blood supply is reduced to his penis. It's also not normal that he is urinating in the house often, and that could be caused by a UTI or bladder stones. I would have Jay seen by a vet immediately so that his symptoms can be diagnosed and treated.

Hello. Sorry Zorro is having this issue. He really needs to see a vet immediately! That looks very abnormal and painful! My guess is that he has had some trauma to the penis. He could have fractured the os penis which is a bone that lies at the base of the penis. He could have a blockage of his urethra. Regardless of the reason for the injury this could be a serious problem if left untreated. You need to get him to a vet ASAP. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Some possible reasons for his symptoms: * stones in the bladder * broken os penis (the bone in the penis) * prostate problem He needs to see a veterinarian right away. This is not something that will resolve on it's own and he could certainly die from any of these issues if left untreated. This is serious so please find him a vet as soon as possible.

Hi, it is not normal to bleed so profusely , I would definitely have him reassessed ! Could it be that the penis has been swollen for some time ? If so, it is better to have him checked over sooner rather than later as permanent damage to the penis can occur that can eventually end up in a an operation. Remember that Euro’s breed tolerates pain much better than other breeds but even a small injury causes a lot of pain in this area which is extremely well vascularised. Hope you can have him checked over ASAP.

Oh no, poor Kyro! It's certainly not normal that he is bleeding form his penis, and he could have a severe UTI, bladder stones, or may have eaten something toxic causing it. Given his young age and the fact that I can't see him in person to say he will be ok or not, the best thing to do is take him into a vet now. Chico could have a urethral prolapse, an infection or some type of trauma to that area. He needs to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Without treatment that tissue could become dead/necrotic, he could have trouble urinating which leads to other issues like kidney failure as well as long term damage like scarring. Do not give him any human medications as it can be toxic to dogs. Keep him from licking at the area and remove and discharge with a warm, moist, clean cloth.
