Why is my intact dog's swollen penis bleeding after antibiotics?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bully | Male | unneutered | 11 months and 10 days old | 31.4 lbs

My dogs penis is bleeding profusely. He has a swollen lump at the tip and it is dark red. Penis is swollen. No blood in urine no problem urinating. No licking penis. Doesn’t seem to be in any pain. Took him to the vet and he was put on antibiotics But after first pill he seemed to bleed more. Bleeds a lot then it stops then he bleeds a puddle again. He is 11 months and intact. Still energetic and playful. Doesn’t seem to be in any pain. Still eating and drinking regularly.

Hi, it is not normal to bleed so profusely , I would definitely have him reassessed ! Could it be that the penis has been swollen for some time ? If so, it is better to have him checked over sooner rather than later as permanent damage to the penis can occur that can eventually end up in a an operation. Remember that Euro’s breed tolerates pain much better than other breeds but even a small injury causes a lot of pain in this area which is extremely well vascularised.
Hope you can have him checked over ASAP.
