Why is my older dog's penis swollen, purple, and peeing often inside?

Chico could have a urethral prolapse, an infection or some type of trauma to that area. He needs to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Without treatment that tissue could become dead/necrotic, he could have trouble urinating which leads to other issues like kidney failure as well as long term damage like scarring. Do not give him any human medications as it can be toxic to dogs. Keep him from licking at the area and remove and discharge with a warm, moist, clean cloth.

Hello. Sorry Zorro is having this issue. He really needs to see a vet immediately! That looks very abnormal and painful! My guess is that he has had some trauma to the penis. He could have fractured the os penis which is a bone that lies at the base of the penis. He could have a blockage of his urethra. Max's penis is definitely irritated. Most importantly, make sure he is able to urinate normally. If he is straining to urinate or unable to produce urine or urinating blood , he may have a blocked bladder, and this is an emergency. Otherwise, continue to monitor him for signs of pain or discomfort. It may be a good idea to have a urine sample tested by your veterinarian to make sure he doesn't have a urinary tract infection or evidence of bladder stones.
