My puppy is bleeding from his penis. Should I take him to the vet?

From there, x-rays and ultrasound can be used to look at the prostate, if needed. I would recommend having Tyson seen by his veterinarian soon to ensure he is not in pain or in need of medications to treat his condition. In the interim, keep him calm and monitor his bleeding. If the bleeding from Lucky's penis has gotten worse and/or not resolved at all you may need to bring him back to your vet for a recheck. The penis and prepuce are very vascular (meaning they have lots of blood vessels) and so can bleed easily. If the bleeding hasn't subsided at all there may be a larger vessel that is damaged that may need to be sutured closed to prevent any further bleeding. I would be sure to keep the cone on Lucky as well until you get everything figured out so he won't lick excessively down there and cause more irritation.

It absolutely could be a bladder infection, and although they tend to be a bit unusual in puppies they can happen. Testing is relatively straightforward including typically a urinalysis will make the diagnosis but often the vet will recommend a urine culture to ensure that the appropriate antibiotic is being used. At 3 months of age I would also consider some imaging (x-rays with contrast or ultrasound) to rule out congenital (present from birth) anatomical issues that could be contributing to urinary issues.
