Why is my dog's penis swollen, peeing blood, and losing weight?

Poor Jay! It's extremely serious that he has a swollen penis, and if it's purple in color, I would be concerned that the blood supply is reduced to his penis. It's also not normal that he is urinating in the house often, and that could be caused by a UTI or bladder stones. I would have Jay seen by a vet immediately so that his symptoms can be diagnosed and treated.

Bleeding from the penis indicates a serious problem. In an unneutered dog, it could be a prostate infection, enlargement, or tumor. Some other possibilities include a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, or a systemic bleeding problem (coagulopathy). I suspect that his paw biting is unrelated and may be due to allergies or a hot spot, but he should definitely be seen by a veterinarian to determine the cause of both issues and come up with a good treatment plan. That is normally the first thing that I would check out in a dog with this problem. Other possible causes include an injury or tumor on the penis or the penile sheath, a bladder or prostate infection, bladder stones, kidney disease, or even a systemic bleeding disorder. I would recommend taking him to a vet for an exam - they will probably want to collect a urine sample for testing, check his prostate during a rectal exam, and examine his penis closely outside the sheath to look for any problems. From there, x-rays and ultrasound can be used to look at the prostate, if needed. If the problem is due to prostatic enlargement, this can normally be improved with [neutering](https://www.petcoach.co/article/benefits-of-neutering-castrating-male-dogs-puppies/) and does not typically cause any long-term problems.

Hello. Sorry Zorro is having this issue. He really needs to see a vet immediately! That looks very abnormal and painful! My guess is that he has had some trauma to the penis. He could have fractured the os penis which is a bone that lies at the base of the penis. He could have a blockage of his urethra. Regardless of the reason for the injury this could be a serious problem if left untreated. You need to get him to a vet ASAP. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I am so sorry to hear about Prince. It sounds like he needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible. Possible causes for the bleeding from the penis include bladder stones, infection or inflammation of the bladder or prostate, tumor of the prostate or bladder, wound on the penis or problem with the urethra, and bleeding disorders. Your dog needs a good physical exam to start off- the vet can palpate the prostate and bladder and check the penis for problems. They then may recommend a urine test and an x-ray or ultrasound to check the bladder and prostate. They can then get more information on these episodes you are describing, as well as listen to his heart and lungs to be sure these spells he is having aren't fainting/weakness related to a heart issue. They can also x-ray his stomach and do bloodwork to check for underlying causes for his vomiting. It sounds like he is quite ill so I would get him in to the vet right away. Well, it is certainly suspicious that the blood may be coming from the penis. Is there any sign of trauma? If not it may be more internal. Bladder infection, prostate infection, and commonly bladder stones are all possible causes. Bladder stones in males are especially concerning because they can lodge in the penis and cause a urinary obstruction. Less likely would be a bleeding disorder, but that can happen as well.
