My dog got a stick in paw and is limping. Should I see a vet?

Poor Layla! If she is still limping I would make an appointment to have her seen by your vet. She may have injured her nail(s) as you described, or she may even have some soft tissue swelling/ irritation or a fracture. If there is a stick/ splinter/ other foreign object in her paw the vet can help remove it and treat it to help prevent infection. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for dogs, so I do not recommend giving any to Layla without consulting with your vet. I recommend keeping her in a crate or in a room where she can't run/ jump on anything and only taking her out for very short bathroom breaks until she is no longer limping. Make sure she's on a leash so she can't run and make things worse.

Hi there. Ouch! Poor Bear! If Bear is still limping in the morning, I would recommend taking him in to see the vet. It could be that he has more going on than meets the eye. If the residual soreness from the stickers wears odd and he is still limping-there's a chance he's injured himself outside. Anything from a broken toe to a broke nail to a sting or a bite is possible outside. Your vet will be able to prescribe him pain medication as well if he remains painful, which he will be very thankful for. I would try to keep him quiet and resting tonight-if he begins to act much more painful or you see signs of a reaction-best to take him in tonight. I hope he feels better soon!

Ouch, poor King! That looks very painful, and I would definitely take him into the vet to get it treated, Keep it wrapped until then to prevent him from biting at it, but have him seen by a vet first thing in the Monday. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Poor Chewie. You'll want to continue to keep an eye on him. If you notice that it gets any bigger or if he's in pain more than discomfort go in for a visit with your local Veterinarian. If you notice any bones facing in unnatuaral directions, you'll want to go in as soon as possible. Your doctor will be able to prescribe an anti-inflammatory and make sure nothing has moved.

I am concerned that there may be a piece of glass embedded in your dog’s foot. I would recommend taking him in to your veterinarian to have the wound explored and thoroughly cleaned. He may also need antibiotics and pain medication as well. Your dog may need to be sedated to have the wound fully explored. I hope this helps. Poor Charlie. There are several reasons why they can limp and have a painful leg like a broken toenail, a sprain (soft tissue injury), a small or large fracture, and even a dislocated joint. Your vet will be able to localize the pain and take X-rays if needed. Your vet will be able to get him in an anti-inflammatory that you can give with the tramadol. Your vet will also likely recommend strict confinement to help him rest so it can heal. If there is a fracture, your vet may recommend a splint. I hope this helps!

You may try washing the paw once a day for the next 3 days. You must prevent Charliegh from licking the foot (she needs to wear and elizabethan collar at all times). Keep the foot clean and dry. No walks, running or jumping until it is completely healed . If she is not significantly improved in 3 days, or if she gets worse at any point, have her examined by the veterinarian.
