My dog is limping and has a foot injury. Could it be glass?

Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry to hear Dog has stepped on glass. That can certainly cause paw pad lacerations. From the picture, it looks like he has been licking at it. My best advice is to take Dog to his veterinarian so the paw can be examined, smaller less obvious pieces of glass can be removed if still embedded in the paw pad, and bandaged properly. Dog may need to be on antibiotics as well as wear a cone for a few days until his paw pad has healed up. Best of luck!

Based on the injuries you are describing I would be concerned that Flick was hit by a car while he was loose. I would recommend taking him to the vet to have his injuries examined. He will likely need pain medication as well as some antibiotics to help his wounds heal. A lidocaine wound spray is ok for short term use as long as Flick doesn’t lick it off. I hope this helps. Wow, that is quite a large piece of stick ! It would be beneficial to take Charlie to a vet because sometimes it is difficult to evaluate the extent of the injury on your own. I know he is probably a brave boy and that he has already forgotten about it, the wound though might need to be flushed with some sterile solution and likely bandaged ,(according to where it is), to protect it from becoming infected.

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Remi's care today! Lameness can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. This could be due to this foreign body you described if it caused an injury. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. It is difficult to make out exactly what this is based on the pictures, but it appears to be an ulcerated sore that has opened up on the paw pad. I would recommend having this looked at by your veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. This sore could be a mass or an infected wound. Did the limping start today? I wonder if Pawl injured a muscle when he got hurt. It sounds like if the limping is intermittent that it might be ok to wait a short while, but I always worry about fractures and if delaying the exam would cause delayed healing as well. However, many soft tissue injuries will heal in their own with a few weeks of strict rear and possibly anti inflammatory medications if he needs them. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian, but as long as the limping is improving then you may be able to wait until next week.
