My dog is limping and paw bruised after leg got stuck. What to do?

Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Male | neutered | 9 years and 4 months old | 25 lbs

My dog got the bottom half of his leg stuck in a chair hole he was struggling and crying for a moment or So my dad unlocked his leg, yesterday he was fine but today was limping and his paw is slightly bruised.

Poor Chewie. You'll want to continue to keep an eye on him. If you notice that it gets any bigger or if he's in pain more than discomfort go in for a visit with your local Veterinarian. If you notice any bones facing in unnatuaral directions, you'll want to go in as soon as possible. Your doctor will be able to prescribe an anti-inflammatory and make sure nothing has moved.

Ouch, poor Chewie! That must have been frightening and painful for him. He could have strained or torn a ligament when he was struggling to get free, and this would cause the limping (he's in pain) and bruising. I recommend resting Chewie for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

Possible causes of Bruno's limp are: strain or a sprain from being stepped on, if he is older it could have aggravated arthritis, a toe or a bone could be broken, or it could be something unrelated like Lyme disease. My dog fell and has a bruise. When should I take her to the vet?

If the bruising is accompanied by lethargy, swelling and lameness, then Chomps should be seen by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. X-rays may be indicated to diagnose or rule out fractures. A "simple" bruise with no other symptoms may resolve on it's own within a few weeks. Restrict activity to just leash walks for elimination in the meantime.

My dog got a stick in paw and is limping. Should I see a vet?

Wow, that is quite a large piece of stick ! It would be beneficial to take Charlie to a vet because sometimes it is difficult to evaluate the extent of the injury on your own. I know he is probably a brave boy and that he has already forgotten about it, the wound though might need to be flushed with some sterile solution and likely bandaged ,(according to where it is), to protect it from becoming infected.

Why is my dog limping, and his front paw floppy and painful?

Without examining Brutus it is difficult to say but he may have developed soft tissue trauma from an injury or injured his bone / carpal joint. If the limping persists for the next 3 days, I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at him and take x-rays of the leg to help rule out some causes of the lameness. For the next 3 days I would recommend exercise restriction and keeping him on a leash whenever he is outdoors and discouraging him from jumping up or down on any furniture to allow this injury to heal. My dog is limping and lifting her paw. Should I take her to the vet?

Poor Layla! If she is still limping I would make an appointment to have her seen by your vet. She may have injured her nail(s) as you described, or she may even have some soft tissue swelling/ irritation or a fracture. If there is a stick/ splinter/ other foreign object in her paw the vet can help remove it and treat it to help prevent infection. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for dogs, so I do not recommend giving any to Layla without consulting with your vet. I recommend keeping her in a crate or in a room where she can't run/ jump on anything and only taking her out for very short bathroom breaks until she is no longer limping. Make sure she's on a leash so she can't run and make things worse.

I would monitor Bella and if the area begins to swell, she starts limping again, or she seems painful, bring her to a vet right away. Broken toes may have minimal swelling or pain but still might need care from your veterinarian depending on the injury. Keeping any scrapes clean and dry to prevent infection is also a good idea.
