My dog was sprayed by a cat in heat. Is it harmful or dangerous?

If you do notice the smell lingering, it's fine to bathe Jasper again, but I would wait at least 24 hours before the next bath so you don't dry out his skin. This shouldn't damage his coat, it's more of a concern if you are bathing him all the time. I hope this helps!

The fragrance shouldn't harm him. Try to see if you can just re-bathe the tail area in Dawn to be sure it is gone. Good luck!

Likely nothing will happen if it was just a light spray. In general these products will cause irritation the to nasal passage way. If you have any concerns, I recommend to call the manufacturer of the perfume. They will be familiar with the safety studies and will be able to tell you if the ingredients have toxic risks. If Georgina still smells, and there is a chance it could be kerosene, do not allow her to continue to bathe herself. Kerosene is toxic if ingested, and it can be toxic as well on her skin. I would bathe her again with a baby shampoo or Dawn dish soap to try to get rid of the smell, and if that doesn't work, I would take her into a vet because of the concern it could be kerosene on her skin. Another thing to consider is that she may have been sprayed by a skunk. I obviously can't smell her to say if that's correct or not, but that would also be a hard smell to get rid of and would smell terrible on a cat. You can get a shampoo to get rid of skunk smell from the pet store.

Unfortunately this could be related to her heat cycle (hormones), a bladder infection or a behavioral issue. Since she can’t talk and tell you what’s going on, I recommend to have her checked by the veterinarian for a bladder infection. You may also discuss having her spayed which will eliminate that factor as well. If the veterinarian suspect this is behavioral, there are many things you can do to help encourage her to use a litter box. Just post again. Nova is beautiful! Thanks for including a picture. Spraying can be either vertical or horizontal (especially in a female cat). Since the behavior is only occurring during her heat cycle that certainly suggests that Nova is spraying. However, I would recommend getting her spayed ASAP because sometimes such behavior will continue after spaying if it continues for a prolonged period of time. Good luck!
