Why is my dog sniffing the air indoors so much? Should I worry?

It sounds like Zoey may have an upper respiratory infection such as kennel cough. This is a very contagious disease and she may have picked it up while walking outside, or when sniffing another dog. This is usually a self-limiting disease and will go away by itself within 4 weeks. If she gets a purulent discharge (nose and/or eyes), has trouble breathing or coughs more than a couple of times a day, you need to take her to the vet for an exam, antibiotics and cough medicine.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I may not have an exact answer for you but it is likely normal for your dog. It could be his tongue hitting the roof of his mouth as he is "tasting" what he is sniffing. There is a olfactory gland on the roof of the mouth right behind the incisors. Or it should be his epiglottis opening and closing as he breaths or the soft palate is a bit long and it is flapping as he breaths. If something changes when he breathes normally I would see your Vet and get a work up. Good luck

This warrants a veterinary evaluation for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to evaluate her and if this seems likely, start her on antibiotics. While she could be experiencing allergies as they are common this time of year, a respiratory tract infection is also possible. Given how frequently her symptoms are occurring, I worry that she does have an infection. If so, she may need an antibiotic. In the meantime, you can place her the bathroom while you shower. The warm humid air can help lessen any congestion she may have. I hope this information helps!
