My dog has a stuffy nose, snorts, and sneezes. Can she go to class?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | spayed | 3 years and 1 month old | 35 lbs

Hi. My dog's nose is stuffy, but nothing is coming out of her nose. When she tries to breath through her nose, she makes a snorting noise and when she's up and walking around she'll start to give these odd, short sneezes. It also kind of sounds like she has slime in her throat or something. She's still as lively and bright eyed as usual, i just want to make sure it's nothing serious and if it would be safe to take her to an agility class tomorrow or if i should rather not. Thank you!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly due to an upper respiratory infection for example. This warrants a veterinary evaluation for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to evaluate her and if this seems likely, start her on antibiotics. I do not recommend that you take her to an agility class tomorrow as she needs to rest and also keep in mind that this could be infectious and contagious putting other dogs at risk. Best of luck!
