My dog's sneezing forcefully with a warm, dry nose. What should I do?

Max could be sneezing for several reasons and the most common are infection or allergies. A foreign object stuck in the nose, fungal infection or cancer can also cause dogs to sneeze. If his sneezing is continuing beyond a week, I recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian. The doctor will perform a physical exam and should be able to get a better idea of what is going on. You can use a humidifier, an air filter and make sure that the filter in your furnace is changed on a scheduled basis to help improve air quality and may help with the sneezing. With a dog as young as he, my first guess would be a seed or bit of grass that he has sneezed into his nasal passage. Since he seems to be feeling okay otherwise I don't think he needs anything special done before he gets in to see the vet. If they don't find something else causing his sneezing, they may need to sedate him in order to explore his nasal passages for any sign of a foreign body.

Excessive sneezing like this could be a sign of foreign material in the nasal cavity (sometimes a piece of fluff or plant material can get stuck), or potentially a nasal polyp, tumor or infection. If this extreme sneezing continues I'd recommend having your vet examine Pilsner - they might recommend sedation for a nasal flush and exam.

Frequent sneezes can be caused by many things. If he s having an occasional couple of sneezes throughout the day he could have a minor inhaled allergy. If he is having more little fits of snorting sneezes these could be reverse sneezes - also often caused by inhaled allergens. If either of these are the case and the sneezes become more frequent you could contact your veterinarian for an antihistamine dose. If it is just occasional I wouldn't worry about it too much and I would just monitor. If Sanza is having fits of violent sneezes, he could have inhaled plant material or a foxtail that may be stuck in the nose. If this is the case I would have him evaluated by his veterinarian as soon as possible. If the sneezing progresses to nasal discharge or coughing he may have an upper respiratory infection. In this case I would also have him seen by a veterinarian.

Periodic sneezing can just be a sign of allergic rhinitis, especially if he is otherwise eating well and behavior hasn't changed. Contact your vet to see if there are some antihistamines that can be tried for now, then continue to monitor him to see if the sneezing improves over the next few days. What a cutie pie! I would try putting a humidifier in the room with him overnight or putting him in the bathroom while you run a steamy shower for 10-15 minutes to provide some beneficial moisture to his airways. If he develops discharge from the nose, coughing, eye discharge, decreased appetite, decreased energy these would be reasons to seek veterinary care. You can ask your vet if it would be ok to give him an antihistamine such as Benadryl or Zyrtec to see if it could be allergy related as well. We do use these drugs in dogs, but I always recommend checking with your vet before starting any new medication.

Hachi's sneezing could be a caused by a couple of things such as an upper respiratory infection, environmental irritant (dust, pollen), or allergies for example. Given that he is otherwise acting normal, I would monitor him for now. Should the sneezing continue over the next couple of days, it increases in frequency, he starts coughing, his appetite decreases, he becomes lethargic, and/or there is a discharge from his nose or eyes, then I would take him into the vet for a health check.
