Why is my dog sneezing frequently, but seems otherwise normal?

Hachi's sneezing could be a caused by a couple of things such as an upper respiratory infection, environmental irritant (dust, pollen), or allergies for example. Given that he is otherwise acting normal, I would monitor him for now. Should the sneezing continue over the next couple of days, it increases in frequency, he starts coughing, his appetite decreases, he becomes lethargic, and/or there is a discharge from his nose or eyes, then I would take him into the vet for a health check. Max could be sneezing for several reasons and the most common are infection or allergies. A foreign object stuck in the nose, fungal infection or cancer can also cause dogs to sneeze. If his sneezing is continuing beyond a week, I recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian. The doctor will perform a physical exam and should be able to get a better idea of what is going on. You can use a humidifier, an air filter and make sure that the filter in your furnace is changed on a scheduled basis to help improve air quality and may help with the sneezing. Aww, Nikko is such a cutie! I’m sorry he’s having some sneezing fits lately. Allergies or infections like kennel cough can set them off. So can being near cigarette or marijuana smoke, incense, candles, or having something small (blade of grass/bug) stuck up the nostril. There is not much you can do at home. If it’s non-stop, or happening frequently for more than 24 hours, see your vet to he’ll narrow down the causes and get recommendations for treatment. Best of luck to you and Nikko!

It sounds like buddy could have inhaled something in the yard like a blade of grass or a dried weed or foxtail. If they inhale plant material like this they will often have bouts of sneezing violently and often shake/thrash their head during the sneezing attacks. Sometimes they will also flare their nostril on the side of the foreign material or may have Nasal discharge from that nostril. If buddy continues to have sneezing fits i would have him evaluated by his veterinarian. If they think he could have inhaled something, they will sedate him and look up to nose with special instruments to visualize and remove any foreign material. Dogs can also inhale irritating pollens etc in the yard causing a short few episodes of sneezing. If it is just a little allergic reaction to something they inhale it is usually self limiting and requires no treatment. Hope this helps!

Excessive sneezing like this could be a sign of foreign material in the nasal cavity (sometimes a piece of fluff or plant material can get stuck), or potentially a nasal polyp, tumor or infection. If this extreme sneezing continues I'd recommend having your vet examine Pilsner - they might recommend sedation for a nasal flush and exam.

This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or eventually to a persistent rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective).
