My dog is sneezing constantly. What's wrong and how can I help?

Frequent sneezes can be caused by many things. If he s having an occasional couple of sneezes throughout the day he could have a minor inhaled allergy. If he is having more little fits of snorting sneezes these could be reverse sneezes - also often caused by inhaled allergens. If either of these are the case and the sneezes become more frequent you could contact your veterinarian for an antihistamine dose. If it is just occasional I wouldn't worry about it too much and I would just monitor. If Sanza is having fits of violent sneezes, he could have inhaled plant material or a foxtail that may be stuck in the nose. If this is the case I would have him evaluated by his veterinarian as soon as possible. If the sneezing progresses to nasal discharge or coughing he may have an upper respiratory infection. In this case I would also have him seen by a veterinarian.

What a cutie pie! I would try putting a humidifier in the room with him overnight or putting him in the bathroom while you run a steamy shower for 10-15 minutes to provide some beneficial moisture to his airways. If he develops discharge from the nose, coughing, eye discharge, decreased appetite, decreased energy these would be reasons to seek veterinary care. You can ask your vet if it would be ok to give him an antihistamine such as Benadryl or Zyrtec to see if it could be allergy related as well. We do use these drugs in dogs, but I always recommend checking with your vet before starting any new medication.

Max could be sneezing for several reasons and the most common are infection or allergies. A foreign object stuck in the nose, fungal infection or cancer can also cause dogs to sneeze. If his sneezing is continuing beyond a week, I recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian. The doctor will perform a physical exam and should be able to get a better idea of what is going on. You can use a humidifier, an air filter and make sure that the filter in your furnace is changed on a scheduled basis to help improve air quality and may help with the sneezing. Causes of sneezing can include upper respiratory infection, inflammation of the nasal passages (rhinitis), irritants in the environment such as dust or cleaners, foreign material in the nose, such as a piece of grass or dirt, or even cancer. If the sneezing is happening multiple times a day, I recommend having Nonnie evaluated by your veterinarian at their next available appointment. Excessive sneezing like this could be a sign of foreign material in the nasal cavity (sometimes a piece of fluff or plant material can get stuck), or potentially a nasal polyp, tumor or infection. If this extreme sneezing continues I'd recommend having your vet examine Pilsner - they might recommend sedation for a nasal flush and exam.

This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or eventually to a chronic rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). Small foreign bodies inside the nostrils can cause these signs as well. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Cigarette smoke is a respiratory irritant to dogs, so that could be why Daisy is sneezing more when she is outside with you. In the future, I would avoid having her with you when you are smoking, keep her indoors. Allergies could also be playing a part in her sneezing, and Daisy could be allergic to environmental allergies and cleaners in the home. I recommend having her seen by a vet for blood tests to diagnose if she does have allergies, and your vet can prescribe medications to help her symptoms.
